Automation QA engineer

You will join our Payments domain, where we build and maintain critical components of the Danish and European payments infrastructure.

We are currently working on initiatives such as SEPA Instant (EUR), STEP2, and other key payment transformations. Our systems handle high-volume, real-time payment processing and are critical to ensuring compliance and stability for our member banks.

As a QA Automation Engineer, your primary focus will be to drive and expand test automation across complex payment solutions, covering backend services, APIs, messaging flows, and user interfaces.

You will be part of a cross-site team based in Denmark and Poland, working closely with developers and analysts to ensure high quality across the full delivery lifecycle.

Your direct manager will be Heidi Haugaard.

Primary tasks and responsibilities

• Test automation ownership: Drive the test automation agenda in the team and help increase automation coverage across systems.
• Automation development: Design, implement, and maintain automated tests across APIs, backend services (Java), and UI (Angular).
• End-to-end testing: Ensure quality across complex, distributed payment flows, including real-time and batch processing.
• Message-based testing: Validate ISO 20022 payment messages and flows across MQ-based integrations.
• Quality advocacy: Promote quality best practices and help the team adopt a strong QA and automation mindset.
• Collaboration: Work closely with developers to integrate testing into the development process and CI/CD pipelines.
• Defect analysis: Investigate defects using logs, data, and system insights to identify root causes.
• Continuous improvement: Improve frameworks, tooling, and ways of working within test and automation.

To succeed in this role, you will have

• Strong experience with test automation in modern systems.
• Experience testing APIs and backend services (for example REST and messaging systems).
• Experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, REST Assured, or similar.
• ISTQB Foundation certification, or similar.
• Experience testing web applications, preferably Angular-based user interfaces.
• Knowledge of MQ (for example IBM MQ) and message-based integrations.
• Ability to validate XML/JSON and schemas (XSD/JSON Schema).
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot using logs and system data.
• Good collaboration skills and the ability to work across roles such as development, QA, and business analysis.
• A structured, proactive, and quality-driven mindset.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to have

• Experience with payments such as SEPA, Instant Payments, STEP2, and ISO 20022.
• Understanding of real-time systems and high-availability architectures.
• Experience with z/OS, DB2, or other mainframe technologies.
• Programming skills in Java and/or TypeScript.
