We're looking for a full or part time Infrastructure Engineer to join our team in Budapest.

About Argus Cognitive Hungary Kft.

We're the Hungarian subsidiary of Argus Cognitive, a US-based startup that develops software medical devices. Products like these need regulatory approval before they can go to market; in the US, that means the FDA.

Our flagship product is Neurora. It supports the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder by analyzing a wide range of behavioral markers in video recordings of diagnostic sessions. If we do our job well, clinicians get through more assessments, and waiting lists get shorter. Therapy matters most at a young age, and children can’t start it in time if the diagnosis is delayed by years. This is why this work is critical.

We're about 20 people strong. Almost all engineering and development happens in our Budapest office. Commercialization is currently focused on the US.

About the position

We already have engineering and R&D departments. Infrastructure is the one we're building now, and you would be the first hire in it, reporting directly to the CTO. You'd still work closely with engineering day to day. This gives you the option to shape this position to your preferences.

The role sits somewhere between DevOps engineer and system administrator. Exactly where it depends on the candidate. If it works out on both sides, we're in it for the long term.

Because our product analyzes 45-60 minute high quality videos, we have high computing needs that heavily rely on GPUs. Monitoring the performance and ensuring that the analyses happen quickly and reliably is important, especially as we grow.

What you'd do

• Manage our on-prem hardware. Day to day, this is less "help me set up the printer" and more ”notice if we have an I/O bottleneck on our servers and see if we need to migrate something to an SSD”
• Manage updates across the infrastructure, including BIOS, OS, and applications
• Manage and improve our Kubernetes cluster
• Implement security improvements and help document how we mitigate vulnerabilities
• Support development with deployment, CI/CD, containerization, and similar technologies. It’s beneficial if you understand how software products are created.
• Maintain our backup and disaster recovery system
• As the company matures, our needs change. You will regularly need to think about what new technologies and processes we should implement
• Build custom solutions where they're needed. Sometimes that means writing code, anywhere from a snippet to a small internal application
• Work in a regulated environment. Because our products are regulated medical devices, we have serious requirements about security, compliance, and patient privacy

What we're looking for

• A BSc in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical knowledge. That said, if you're a talented junior who genuinely loves this work, apply anyway.
• Experience with Linux-based systems
• A proactive mindset. If something is not right, it needs to bother you, and you need to go ahead and find a solution.
• The ability to pick up new knowledge quickly as our company grows and changes. This is the reason why we don’t list hard technical requirements such as x years experience with Ansible. Instead, we need someone who can learn whatever new knowledge is needed.
• The job can be done partially remotely, but when there’s an issue that needs your physical presence, you need to be able to get to our server room fast. Formal on-call requirements are not defined yet, we are planning on doing that together with you.
