Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to support a long-term enterprise project in Basel. This is a 3-year contract role with the possibility of extension.
We are seeking a senior-tier Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize our enterprise-wide data platform. In this role, you will be responsible for breaking down operational data silos and constructing scalable, low-latency ETL/ELT pipelines. Your mission is to establish a unified data architecture that delivers clean, highly structured, and reliable data streams for downstream business intelligence, advanced analytics, and AI initiatives.
Strategic Scope:Architects, deploys, and operates end-to-end automated data ingestion channels, distributed big data pipelines, enterprise analytics platforms, and central repository frameworks.
Core Responsibilities
- Pipeline Ingestion Architecture: Analyze raw structured and unstructured source data formats to construct resilient automated ETL/ELT pipelines and real-time streaming ingestion jobs.
- Analytical Platform Scaling: Design, scale, and optimize scalable corporate Data Lakes, centralized Enterprise Data Warehouses, and modern Delta Lakehouse architectures.
- Governance & Access Enforcements: Enforce data classification standards, programmatic object masking, multi-level role-based access control (RBAC), and automated data quality validation gates.
- Lineage & Metadata Mapping: Author, trace, and maintain technical data dictionary mappings, schema evolution profiles, and unified end-to-end data lineage tracking catalogs.
- Automation Pipeline Infrastructure: Provision and manage isolated environments using code-driven versioning templates, integrating automated monitoring and security scanning for data flows.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration, database engineering, or enterprise database architecture.
- Strong experience with SQL Server platform sizing, deployment modelling, resource planning, memory configuration, storage design and performance-oriented database setup.
- Good knowledge of data modelling, schema design, indexing strategies, constraints, data types, partitioning and relational database design principles.
- Experience designing, implementing and maintaining high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including failover, mirroring, replication, backup/restore strategies and DR runbooks.
- Strong performance tuning experience, including execution plan analysis, stored procedure optimisation, deadlock resolution, nested view tuning and complex query optimisation.
- Experience planning and executing database migrations, version upgrades, schema changes, patch deployments and production releases with minimal downtime.
- Ability to advise software development teams on database design, query performance, data integrity and scalable application-database interaction patterns.
- Good understanding of database security, access control, operational monitoring, incident troubleshooting and enterprise change management practices.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a distributed project team.
- Languages : Flawless bilingual/native-level business German communications proficiency (C1/C2 level written and spoken) is required. The candidate must present seamlessly in German during the technical panel interview (Anbieterfachgespräch).
- Swiss Compliance : Must hold EU/EFTA nationality or possess an active, valid Swiss permanent residency/work card (C Permit or unrestricted B/G Permit).
