What We Are Looking For
To support the ongoing development of our platform, we are looking for a Senior PHP Engineer. You will be building and enhancing product features within a large, business-critical PHP application.

Your primary focus will be designing, implementing, and improving backend functionality while contributing to the gradual modernization of our platform.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role with significant technical ownership.

Principal Responsibilities

• Develop and evolve backend functionality for JAGGAER’s hosted B2B SaaS platform based on secure-by-design principles.
• Typically work within a cross-functional team alongside frontend engineers, backend engineers, QA, and Product Owners.
• Take ownership of backend components within a large PHP monolith and contribute to its continuous improvement & refactoring.
• Solve complex technical challenges involving performance, scalability, data integrity, and maintainability.
• Write clean, maintainable PHP code following engineering best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Debug production issues and continuously improve platform stability.
• Leverage AI-assisted software engineering to accelerate implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and engineering workflows.
• Design effective AI workflows using coding assistants, AI agents, structured prompting, and context management.
• Critically evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness, security, scalability, maintainability, and business suitability.
• Work effectively across modern engineering practices and legacy systems.

Position Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience with strong PHP expertise.
• Experience in developing and maintaining large, long-lived PHP applications, including monolithic architectures.
• Strong knowledge of Symfony or similar PHP frameworks with ORM support.
• Strong understanding of MySQL and relational database design.
• Excellent knowledge of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Experience with Composer and dependency management.
• Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
• Hands-on experience in structuring codebase context (module boundaries, naming conventions, architectural constraints) specifically to improve AI code-generation reliability.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code and recommendations using sound engineering judgement.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, international engineering environment.
• Strong focus on software quality and long-term maintainability.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is a plus.
• Proactivity and appetite for solving challenging technical problems within a cooperative environment.

Nice To Have

• Frontend experience with JavaScript, particularly Backbone.js and/or React.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Experience with caching technologies such as Memcached.
• Exposure to large-scale SaaS platforms or high-availability systems.
• Familiarity with observability, telemetry, or monitoring tools.
