Full Stack Developer
to join our team and help us drive this exciting transformation.

Tasks

As a full-stack developer at SCHRANKERL, you'll play a pivotal role in the software development of our core system. Your main tasks will involve:

  • Creating a modern software system to streamline operations, optimize services, and enhance meal planning.

  • Collaborating with a small, dynamic team spread across Vienna and Linz, where every voice is valued, and ideas are heard.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • 2+ years of experience as a software developer.

  • A diverse portfolio of technical skills.

  • Proficiency in Python (required).

  • Angular or data science frameworks (not required but a plus)

  • Typescript, Java, Rust or R (not required but a plus)

  • Experience with Odoo (not required but a plus).

  • Understanding of (or interest in) machine learning techniques for predictive modeling.

  • Experience building APIs and working with complex data-driven systems

  • Well-structured and analytical thinking.

  • The ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience.

  • Fluent English skills (German is a plus).

  • The motivation to take ownership of projects from conception to release.

  • Energy, team spirit, and a creative mindset to continually improve our processes.

We are looking for an experienced, motivated
Freelance
Backend Software Engineer
who will work closely with their Backend colleagues, as well as support our product teams. You will contribute with your knowledge of Java, Spring, Hibernate, relational databases & REST within our agile and cross-functional teams. As a flexible and open-minded person with a passion for clean code you will be a perfect addition to our team. We are committed to quality, dedicating time to code reviews, test coverage, quality days and CI/CD principles.

Essential skills for this mission:

  • You enjoy developing clean, stable, testable and performant backend code, serving our beautiful mobile applications
  • You have at least 3 years of experience working as a Software Engineer
  • You have at least 2 years of full-time experience as a Backend Engineer
  • You love working in and supporting an interdisciplinary team, together with architects, frontend engineers, QAs, and product owners
  • You are passionate about solid technical design, clean code and future-proof architectures
  • You are familiar with Java 17+ and frameworks like Spring 5, Hibernate, or JAX-RS
  • You have experience with SQL and relational databases like PostgreSQL
  • You have experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or any other cloud provider
  • You want to learn new technologies and are able to adopt them quickly
  • Great written and verbal communication in English
  • You are either an EU citizen or hold a valid Austrian work permit

Bonus skills:

  • Experience with medical, security, and privacy regulations
  • Knowledge of the diabetes industry or other comparable health industries
  • Experience working in agile environments

Job Description

  • Take technical ownership of the design, development, and continuous improvement of Java-based applications and services
  • Drive the implementation of high-quality software solutions using Java and Spring Boot
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into pragmatic technical solutions
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and code reviews to support the growth of team members
  • Support projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from concept to implementation

Qualifications

  • Completed technical education (HTL, FH, TU) or a comparable qualification

  • Experience in leading developers or acting as a technical lead within agile teams
  • Hands-on experience with Java/Kotlin (Spring Boot), RESTful APIs, microservices, integration patterns, and distributed systems

Your mission
As a Software Engineer in Trade Services, your mission is to build and scale the engine room of Bitpanda. You will own the core execution of every single trade, forging the high-throughput, financially critical backbone of our ecosystem.

 

What you’ll do

  • Building the core engine requires designing and developing scalable, resilient, message-driven services using Java to handle offers, trade requests, and money movement.
  • Ensuring quality involves writing clean and future-proof code with 80%+ unit test coverage, conducting thorough end-to-end and integration testing before deploying into an event-driven microservices architecture.
  • Optimizing execution flows for core trading modules—such as fee calculation, order execution, ledger writing, and wallet synchronization—guarantees total reliability, maintainability, performance, and scalability.
  • Driving innovation means researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in backend development to ensure our core trading and ledger applications remain cutting-edge.

Who you are

  • Knowledge and experience of software development using modern frameworks such as Spring Boot, with Java as your main programming language
  • Understanding of relational and non-relational databases (bonus points for experience with Postgres and MongoDB)
  • Experience creating and maintaining publicly available REST APIs with a keen understanding of performance optimisation and scalability
  • Deep knowledge and hands on track record using message-oriented middleware; as we’re working with event driven microservices (ideally Apache Kafka or ZeroMQ)
  • Understanding of CI/CD: familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes is ideal but any public cloud experience is fine
