About The Job
As a Digital Platform Engineer – Aftersales, you will focus on building digital tools, applications and reusable platform capabilities that solve real operational problems and support the digitalization of BYD’s aftersales business across Europe.

This is not a traditional software development role where requirements are simply handed over for implementation. You will work closely with business teams, Digital Product Owners and end users to understand business problems, shape practical solutions, rapidly prototype ideas, and turn them into reliable and scalable digital products.

You will contribute across the full delivery lifecycle – from business requirement understanding, solution design and prototyping to development, system integration, testing, deployment, operation and continuous improvement.

We expect you to actively leverage AI-assisted development, automation and modern engineering tools to improve development speed, quality and problem-solving efficiency. For smaller digital products or tools, you may also take lightweight product ownership and independently drive the solution from problem identification to delivery.

Main Responsibilities

  • Digital Product & Platform Development: Design and develop internal digital tools, applications and reusable platform capabilities for European aftersales. Build scalable and maintainable solutions supporting areas such as service operations, parts, warranty, technical support, customer care and other aftersales domains.
  • Business Understanding & Solution Design: Work directly with business teams, Digital Product Owners and end users to understand operational processes and pain points. Translate business problems into practical technical solutions and, where appropriate, challenge or refine requirements based on technical feasibility and business value.
  • Rapid Prototyping & AI-Assisted Development: Rapidly turn business ideas into working prototypes and MVPs. Actively use AI coding assistants, LLMs, agents, automation and other modern development tools to accelerate analysis, coding, testing, documentation and troubleshooting while maintaining engineering quality.
  • Full-Stack Development & System Integration: Develop front-end and back-end capabilities, APIs, services and data integrations. Integrate locally developed solutions with enterprise and third-party systems such as SAP, DMS, WMS, OMS, TIS, CRM and other relevant platforms.
  • Platform & Reusable Capability Development: Contribute to solution architecture and develop reusable components, APIs, workflows and common services. Look beyond individual requirements and identify opportunities to build common capabilities that can be reused across different markets and business scenarios.
  • Testing, Deployment & DevOps: Own technical delivery through development, code review, functional and technical testing, CI/CD, deployment, monitoring and release management. Ensure solutions are secure, reliable, maintainable and production-ready.
  • Operation & Problem Solving: Provide technical and operational support after go-live. Investigate system and business issues, perform root-cause analysis, resolve problems and continuously improve platform stability, performance and user experience.
  • Lightweight Product Ownership: For smaller digital products or tools, take end-to-end ownership from problem identification and requirement clarification through solution design, development, testing, rollout and continuous improvement. Work directly with users to validate whether the solution creates real business value.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with European business teams, Digital Product Owners, markets, BYD HQ development teams and external technology partners. Support technical decision-making and determine the most effective way to solve business problems through existing platforms, system integration or locally developed capabilities.

Qualification And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or another relevant technical field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on software development experience, with demonstrated ability to independently design, build and deliver production-ready applications or digital solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript or similar technologies, with practical experience in application development.
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, databases/SQL, system integration, authentication, data flows and software architecture.
  • Practical experience with modern software engineering practices and tools such as Git, CI/CD, automated testing, cloud services, containers and application monitoring.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools in real development work. Familiarity with LLM APIs, AI agents, RAG, MCP or workflow orchestration is highly valued.
  • Ability and willingness to understand business processes and operational problems, rather than working only from predefined technical specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving capability and ownership mindset, with the ability to independently move ambiguous problems toward practical working solutions.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with business users, Product Owners, technical teams and external vendors in an international environment.
  • Fluent English is required. Mandarin Chinese is a plus due to collaboration with BYD HQ and development teams.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms such as SAP, DMS, WMS, OMS, CRM or TIS is highly desirable.
  • Experience in automotive, aftersales, supply chain, manufacturing or enterprise digitalization is an advantage, but not mandatory.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for builders.
You enjoy turning ambiguous business problems into working digital solutions. You are comfortable talking directly with users, understanding how the business actually works, exploring possible solutions, building prototypes, validating them quickly and continuously improving them based on real feedback.

You do not see software development simply as completing predefined development tasks. You care about whether the solution actually solves the business problem.

You actively use AI not only as a feature that can be added to a product, but also as an important part of the modern software development process – helping you analyze, design, code, test, troubleshoot and deliver faster and better.

You also think beyond individual tools and requirements. Where possible, you look for opportunities to turn repeated business needs into reusable, scalable platform capabilities that can support multiple European markets.

Our Purpose is to
build a zero-emission future that reconnects humanity with nature and a World of clean air
. We are looking for talent that connects with this mission and want to create positive impact by joining a diverse and dynamic team 🌏

A company that functions at unparalleled levels of effectiveness and efficiency. A company that creates value for shareowners at an extraordinary rate. And a company that does so while adhering to high ethical standards.

In pursuit of this objective, we acquire and improve digital businesses, not to sell on, but to own and operate for the long term. The transformations we make are often deep—designed to speed up innovation, benefit customers, and strengthen business performance. Here, hierarchy is minimal and teams are small and talent-dense. We operate established products with the ambition, agility, and urgency of a startup. Across the company, we integrate AI deeply into how we work so that human judgment and machine intelligence reinforce each other.

For a talented, driven, and collaborative individual, working at Bending Spoons is an opportunity to learn, make an impact, and progress their career at an exceptionally high rate. That’s our promise to such a candidate.

A few examples of your responsibilities

  • Build software that matters.
Take real ownership from idea to production, creating systems used by millions and evolving them into products at scale.
  • Amplify your impact with AI.
Integrate the most powerful AI tools directly into your development workflow—design, implementation, testing, and documentation—to move faster while maintaining high standards for correctness, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Master your toolkit.
Work across diverse stacks with end-to-end ownership, choosing the right technologies for each challenge. From monoliths to microservices, gRPC to REST, Kubernetes to Docker, Python to Rust—you’ll apply technologies thoughtfully, focusing on depth and purpose rather than trends.
  • Simplify relentlessly.
Question every layer of complexity. Improve architectures, pipelines, and codebases to build systems that are simpler, more scalable, and easier to maintain.

What we look for

  • Reasoning ability.
Given the necessary knowledge, you can solve complex problems. You think from first principles, and structure your ideas sharply. You resist the influence of biases. You identify and take care of the details that matter.
  • Drive.
You’re extremely ambitious in everything you do—and your initiative, effort, and tenacity match the intensity of your ambition. You feel deeply responsible for your work. You hold yourself to a high—and rising—bar.
  • Team spirit.
You give generously and without the expectation of receiving in return. You support the best idea, not your idea. You're always happy to get your hands dirty to help your team. You’re reliable, honest, and transparent.
  • Proficiency in English.
You read, write, and speak proficiently in English.

What we offer

  • Incredibly talented, entrepreneurial teams.
You’ll work in small, result-oriented, autonomous teams alongside some of the brightest people in your field.
  • An exceptional opportunity for growth.
We go to great lengths to hire individuals of outstanding potential—then, our priority is to put them in the ideal position to thrive. Spooners in their 20s lead products worth hundreds of millions of dollars. And if you’ve got what it takes, you’ll soon be playing an essential role in major projects, too.
  • All. These. Benefits.
Flexible hours, remote working, unlimited backing for learning and training, top-of-the-market health insurance, a rich relocation package, generous parental support, and a yearly retreat to a stunning location. We help each Spooner set up the conditions to do their best work.
  • A flexible start date and part-time options.
You don't need to wait until graduation to apply. We offer flexible start dates and the possibility to begin part-time, transitioning to full-time as you complete your degree. Many Spooners joined before graduating and progressively took on greater responsibility, with arrangements that allowed them to do so without compromising their education.
  • Competitive pay and access to company equity at a discount.
Typical annual salary offers range from £85,797 to £151,436 in London and from €66,065 to €107,837 elsewhere in Europe. The lower end of these ranges applies to candidates with little or no relevant experience, while exceptionally experienced candidates may receive offers of up to £316,052 in London or €240,330 elsewhere in Europe. Candidates offered a permanent contract may choose to receive part of their compensation in discounted company equity.

Commitment & contract
Permanent or fixed-term. Full-time.

Location
Milan (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Warsaw (Poland), London (UK), or fully remote from eligible countries.

The selection process
In our screening process, we prioritize verifiable signals of excellence, regardless of seniority. There are no preferential paths beyond what your application demonstrates, and we evaluate every candidate through the same process.

Some people hold back because they feel they lack experience or have an “imperfect” CV. If you like the role and believe you could excel over time, don’t self-reject.

All applications go through our careers page, which is the only way to be considered. If you pass our screening, you’ll be asked to complete one or more tests. They are challenging, may involve unfamiliar problems, and can take several hours. To learn more about what to expect throughout the selection process, you can find additional information here.

We set the bar high and won’t extend an offer until we’re confident we’ve found the right candidate. This is why a job may remain open for months or be reposted several times.

We consider all applicants for employment and provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities—please let us know through this form.

Before you apply
If you’ve applied before but didn't receive an offer, we recommend waiting at least one year before applying again.

Bending Spoons is a demanding environment. We’re extremely ambitious and we hold ourselves—and one another—to a high standard. While this tends to lead to extraordinary learning, achievement, and career growth, it also requires significant commitment.

To help you ramp up quickly and set yourself up for success, we expect you to spend most days in our Milan office during your first few months with us, regardless of your long-term work location. It’s the best way to rapidly absorb our company culture and build trust with your new teammates. We’ll support you with generous travel and accommodation assistance. After that, you’re welcome to work from one of our offices, or remotely from approved countries—depending on what we agree at the offer stage.

If the role speaks to you and you’re excited to give your best, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now—we can’t wait to meet you.
