Engineering Manager

Apilex is an AI-native legal operating system that manages lawyers' entire legal workflows end to end, powered by AI systems purpose-built for each jurisdiction's legal framework. We are looking for an experienced
Engineering Manager
to lead, empower, and grow our engineering team across Backend, Frontend, and DevOps/Infrastructure. In this role, you will bridge strategic product goals with technical execution, driving the architecture, operational reliability, and continuous delivery of our web applications and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning
  Backend, Frontend, and DevOps
  .
• Translate company and product priorities into clear technical roadmaps, milestones, and ownership areas across the web applications, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
• Own the end-to-end delivery and operational quality of software systems, from architecture design through production deployment and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with Product, Design, and domain teams to convert complex product requirements into technically sound, scalable, and measurable engineering initiatives.
• Guide architectural decisions across the stack—ensuring high availability, system performance, secure data isolation, and robust API design.
• Oversee DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, observability, and release management to ensure safe, continuous, and predictable deployments.
• Establish strong engineering standards, code quality practices, automated testing strategies, and clear release criteria across backend and frontend domains.
• Define and monitor engineering health metrics covering system reliability, latency, cloud costs, security compliance, uptime, and team delivery velocity.
• Identify technical risks, infrastructure bottlenecks, and delivery constraints early, taking proactive steps to resolve or mitigate them.
• Lead hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and capacity planning for the engineering organization.
• Create an environment where engineers can take ownership, communicate openly, challenge assumptions, and grow technically.
• Contribute to executive-level technical decisions, including cloud infrastructure investments, build-versus-buy choices, and tech stack evolution.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years
  of experience in software engineering (Backend, Frontend, or Full-Stack), with a strong track record of operating systems in production.
• 2+ years
  of formal experience managing or leading engineering teams across software development and infrastructure.
• Strong technical background in building and scaling web applications, REST/GraphQL APIs, distributed systems, and modern cloud infrastructure.
• Solid familiarity with modern
  Frontend ecosystems
  (e.g., React, Next.js, Vue) and
  Backend environments
  (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, Java).
• Practical understanding of
  DevOps and SRE practices
  , including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure), and Infrastructure as Code.
• Proven ability to grow engineers through clear expectations, actionable feedback, coaching, and thoughtful delegation.
• Strong engineering judgment across system architecture, maintainability, scalability, latency, security, cost, and delivery trade-offs.
• Ability to communicate complex technical decisions clearly to engineers, product managers, domain experts, and executive leadership.
• Demonstrated success in converting broad strategic goals into concrete execution plans with consistent delivery.
• A management approach that balances technical quality, execution speed, system reliability, and team health.
