Your Impact
You own AI capabilities end-to-end: from the data and context that feed a model, through agent orchestration, to the generative UI a user sees and trusts. You've personally shipped and operated full-stack apps in production, so backend, frontend, data, and ML aren't four teams you coordinate with, they're four things you do. You're not a research scientist; you wield models and engineer ruthlessly around their uncertainty.

You will:

• Build agent loops and orchestration: tool use, structured outputs, business-rule enforcement, graceful failure
• Build the integration layer (via MCP) that lets agents securely call backend systems and business APIs
• Render model output into live, streamed, accessible UI via generative-UI protocols
• Ground models in real data: retrieval, embeddings, and feedback loops that actually close
• Treat evals as a first-class system - provable improvement, not vibes
• Take a capability from prompt-in-a-notebook to a measured, guard-railed production feature

You bring:

• Shipped full-stack apps to production and owned them end-to-end: frontend through backend to deploy and operate, not handed off at a layer boundary
• 5+ years shipping production software, 2+ building with LLMs in production (real users, not demos)
• Hands-on experience with UI protocols (A2UI, AG-UI, MCP-UI, or similar). You've built against a generative/agent-driven UI protocol, not just consumed a REST API
• The AI spine: prompt/context engineering, agents, tool use, structured outputs, evals, MCP Python and TypeScript/Node + React; comfortable with async, streaming, and observability
• Working fluency with retrieval/embeddings and SQL

Overview
The Forward-Deployed Engineer is a client-facing builder within the AI GTM organization responsible for rapidly creating demos, prototypes, proofs of concept, and MVPs that make AI opportunities tangible for clients and account teams. This role combines hands-on engineering, AI fluency, product thinking, and field presence to translate client problems into working technical concepts using models, agents, data, workflows, integrations, and user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Rapidly build demos, prototypes, proofs of concept, and MVPs that bring AI use cases to life for clients and account teams.
• Translate client problems into working technical concepts using models, agents, data, workflows, APIs, integrations, and user experience patterns.
• Support discovery workshops, executive demos, technical deep dives, proof-of-value sessions, and partner enablement activities.
• Partner with Solution Architects to ensure prototypes align to scalable architecture, delivery paths, security expectations, and operational requirements.
• Work with ecosystem partners to showcase differentiated capabilities across OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Google/Gemini, cloud, data, and enterprise platforms.
• Package prototypes into reusable assets, demo scripts, technical collateral, setup guides, reference architectures, and handoff materials.
• Validate technical feasibility, data dependencies, integration complexity, user experience assumptions, and implementation risks early in the sales cycle.
• Help accelerate opportunity conversion by making AI solutions concrete, credible, and client-specific.
• Contribute lessons learned, reusable code, prompts, agent patterns, and implementation guidance back into the global FDE knowledge base.

Success Measures

• Pursuit deal volume, measured as total TCV value of AI deals where the FDE supported.
• Pursuit win rate for AI deals where the FDE supported.
• Prototype-to-pipeline conversion, measured by demos, prototypes, or POCs that convert into qualified pipeline, funded POCs, or downstream implementation work.
• Utilization, reuse of technical assets, demo quality, and stakeholder feedback.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, AI engineering, data engineering, ML engineering, solution engineering, technical consulting, or related hands-on technical roles.
• 2+ years of experience building or deploying AI, ML, GenAI, LLM, RAG, agentic AI, data science, or automation solutions.
• Hands-on experience with programming languages and frameworks such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, FastAPI, Flask, React, LangChain, LlamaIndex, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar technologies.
• Experience integrating APIs, data sources, model providers, workflow tools, and cloud services into working demos or prototypes.
• Working knowledge of responsible AI, security, data handling, privacy, and enterprise deployment considerations.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Fluency in German and English

Preferred Skills

• Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, Google/Gemini, Azure, AWS, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake, vector databases, model registries, and MLOps/LLMOps tooling.
• Experience working directly with clients, sales teams, or product teams to rapidly prototype solutions under ambiguous conditions.
• AI/ML, cloud, data engineering, or software engineering certifications.
• Strong technical curiosity, client empathy, communication, bias for action, collaboration, and ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to travel as required for client and internal engagements.

About The Role
Synthesia videos are becoming two-way experiences. Our Video Agents team is building the next generation of interactive learning - moving beyond passive video into AI-driven conversations, surveys, and knowledge checks that learners actually engage with. Think: a sales rep completing a roleplay with an AI avatar, a learner answering quiz questions mid-video, a manager seeing who's ready to go live with customers.

As a Frontend Engineer on this team, you'll build directly inside our editor - the core creative surface where content creators design these experiences - and extend our video player where learners consume them. You're not just adding features; you're defining new types of AI agents from scratch: configurable, interactive, and deeply integrated into Synthesia's platform end-to-end.

What You'll Work On

• Building new agent types inside our editor - survey agents, knowledge-check agents, quiz flows - that creators configure and learners interact with in real time
• Owning features end-to-end: from the editor UI through app state and logic, down into the player experience
• Working primarily in our editor (a large, complex React + TypeScript application) with some work in our video player
• Collaborating closely with product and design to shape what these new interaction patterns look like - and pushing back when something isn't right
• Making small backend changes when needed to unblock frontend work

What we're looking for

• 4–6+ years of frontend engineering experience, primarily TypeScript and React, and backend knowledge to take features end to end with NodeJS
• Experience working on a large, complex web application - ideally something where users build, configure, or create: an editor, design tool, no-code/low-code platform, workflow builder, or similar
• Comfortable owning frontend features independently, from UI through state management and application logic
• Familiar with real-time interactions (e.g. WebSockets, live collaboration patterns)
• Strong product mindset - you think about what users actually need, not just what was specced

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-powered features, agent interfaces, or LLM-integrated products
• Observability experience - monitoring and improving frontend performance using tools like Datadog, Sentry, or Grafana
• Complex state management in large frontend applications

• Our preference is for this role to based either in-office or remote in the following locations: UK, Germany, Switzerland or Ireland. We may also be able to support remote workers in other locations across Europe subject to compliance and right to work checks.
• The salary starts at EUR/GBP/CHF 130.000 base + RSU's.
• This is full-time employment only - no contractors possible - usually through OysterHR.
• Everyone at Synthesia gets 25 days of leave + local holidays.

The problem

The construction industry loses $1.6 trillion a year to inefficiency, and most of it is avoidable. The knowledge that would prevent it already exists. It's just trapped in PDFs, meeting protocols, and email threads nobody can search. Every new project relearns what the last one already knew.

We're building the opposite of that: software for the people who run large, complex construction projects. It reads the documents, tracks the decisions, and catches the mistakes early. The model isn't the moat. The project memory is, and it compounds: every project makes the system better, and a competitor starting today is already years of projects behind.

Our software runs today on a live autobahn construction program and an S-Bahn transit program: multi-year timelines, hundreds of thousands of pages of specs, protocols, and site communications, and real consequences when we get an answer wrong.

We're pre-seed, led by Realyze Ventures, whose LPs include Zech and other large European construction groups. Co-investors: D11Z, the family office behind Aleph Alpha, and the CDTM Venture Fund, backed by 300+ CDTM alumni including the founders of Personio and Alasco and DeepMind's Technical Director. 25+ live customers.

Tasks

What you'd work on

Two hard problems, both in production.

AI-native project management, not a chatbot on PDFs. You build the product project managers live in every day: the dashboards, task views, and alerts. The AI belongs in the background, not in a sidebar you talk to, so you're building surfaces where automation runs on cronjobs, recommendations surface for the PM to approve, and some tasks run end to end with the user only reviewing after.

The data layer under a five-year project. Construction data is deeply interconnected: documents, protocols, decisions, tasks, and stakeholders all cross-reference each other across timelines that run for years. You design the schema, write the queries, and build the APIs that hold that graph and still serve the product fast enough to feel instant, at hundreds of thousands of pages and 50 stakeholders per project.

Stack. TypeScript, Next.js, Vercel, Supabase (Postgres + pgvector), LangChain, Vercel AI SDK, LangFuse, shadcn/ui. Every engineer gets €500/month for AI tooling: Claude Code, Cursor background agents, and whatever frontier model you want to test. No legacy. Greenfield.

How we work

We ship at 80% and improve in the next iteration. Our users are on live infrastructure projects, so we learn from production.

We'd rather you read the paper than reach for the nearest library. Most of what we build doesn't have a library yet.

Feedback is direct and it's about the work. We move too fast to be precious about it.

High ownership. If you spot the problem, it's yours to fix.

Requirements

Who we're looking for

You reason from user pain to solution to measurable outcome, and you can sit across from a non-technical customer and understand how they actually work.

You're a strong full-stack engineer. You build complex, performant frontends in TypeScript and React/Next.js and the backend APIs behind them, and you have real instincts for database design and query optimization, because construction data is deeply interconnected.

You prototype fast and measure everything. You also care about reliability, because on a live construction project, wrong has consequences.

Level is open. We've watched new grads outrun staff engineers and the other way around. If you're exceptional, we'll build the scope around you.

Nice to have, not required: comfort integrating AI features even if you don't build the models yourself, strong open-source work, an earlier stint as an early employee at a startup, domain depth in construction or complex B2B workflows, or a good eye for design so you can build clean interfaces without detailed mockups.

We work in English. German helps for customer calls but isn't required. We have native speakers for that.
