  • Backed by top investors including ISAI, Serena Capital, Eurazeo Growth, Goldman Sachs, and BPI
  • A mission to give everyone the freedom to work differently

Ready to help shape the future of work? Your next chapter starts here! 🪐

Explore your future career 🔭
As the Head of Experience Systems & AI, you will guide our frontend and interaction evolution: shifting our core design infrastructure from a static component library into an intelligent experience engine.

You will be the guardian of the Malt visual identity within our digital product. Your mission is to define, encode, and scale our quality standards across live interfaces. By embedding our design guidelines directly into our system, you will ensure that automated outputs and dynamically generated code inherit the premium feel, clear hierarchy, and visual polish that define the Malt brand.

Reporting to the VP of Design, you will lead a specialized team of design and system experts while collaborating closely with three dedicated systems engineers. You will architect how our product interface scales cleanly through code generation, automated visual QA, and agentic UI pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Systemic Vision & Roadmap: Own the strategic direction, governance models, and technical roadmap for the Experience Systems & AI team.
  • Set the UI Execution Bar: Serve as the final voice on UI quality across Malt. Define clear standards for layout, motion, responsiveness, and token architecture to ensure production code flawlessly matches design intent.
  • Semantic Systems & Content Design: Oversee the taxonomy, content logic, and tone rules within our system, guiding AI models to generate copy that is contextually accurate and distinctively "Malt".
  • People Coaching & Mentorship: Manage and coach a senior tier of specialists, including a Senior Product Designer (Systems & Craft) and a Content Designer (Semantic Systems). Help them build highly scalable, high-logic design foundations.
  • Automate Code Workflows: Identify and fix friction between design assets and engineering deployments, building out streamlined code generation and asset extraction processes.
  • Automated Quality Governance: Implement automated visual testing checks directly into our integration pipelines to catch visual regressions, token discrepancies, and accessibility bugs early.
  • Dynamic UI Innovation: Partner with systems engineers to experiment with context-aware, adaptive UI components that adjust to real-time user goals.

About You

  • Systems Architect Mindset: You look beyond individual screens; you enjoy designing the underlying rules, programmatic logic, and variable frameworks that power them.
  • Applied AI Literacy: You understand how Large Language Models handle structured data, interact with data schemas, and how to structure context to support predictable UI layouts.
  • Strategic Craft Bar: You have a premium, uncompromising eye for UI detail and the ability to codify brand DNA and high-fidelity polish into technical systems.
  • Scale & Efficiency Oriented: You are driven by scale and engineering leverage, finding satisfaction in automating repetitive design steps out of the product lifecycle.
  • Background: This is a highly cross-functional leadership role. You bring a solid track record leading small engineering-adjacent squads or design systems teams, with deep experience in design token architecture, systems management, or design engineering.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required.

Bonus Points

  • Design Engineering DNA: Comfortable exploring the codebase and discussing component architecture directly with engineers.
  • AI Tinkerer: Hands-on experience with LLM orchestration and structuring data models to bridge the gap between AI and UI.

How to join the mission?

  • First Call with Olivier, our Talent Acquisition Manager, to better understand your background, aspirations and answer any questions you may have. (30-45 minutes)
  • Manager Interview with your future manager Stefanie Fleisch (VP of Design) to delve into your experience and the specifics of the role. (60 minutes)
  • Case Study preparation and presentation with your future manager and members of the Design and Tech Team (60 minutes)
  • Final Interview with the CPO, Sebastien Bardin, to discuss Malt’s long-term vision in terms of AI experience workflows at Malt (30 min) + Coffee with the team (30 min)

Malt is the perfect space to thrive personally and professionally 💫

  • Onboarding: Before easing into your new role, you’ll spend your first week learning about our culture, products, and services with other new joiners at our office in Paris
  • Equity: Every Malter is entitled to stock options
  • Malt sabbatical: Every three years, all Malters are entitled to a one month fully paid sabbatical leave
  • Free books: If you’re interested in learning more about any topic relevant to Malt’s business, just tell us the books you’d like to read, and we’ll order them for you—without any questions asked or approval processes to follow
  • Team building events organized every year

A company that functions at unparalleled levels of effectiveness and efficiency. A company that creates value for shareowners at an extraordinary rate. And a company that does so while adhering to high ethical standards.

In pursuit of this objective, we acquire and improve digital businesses, not to sell on, but to own and operate for the long term. The transformations we make are often deep—designed to speed up innovation, benefit customers, and strengthen business performance. Here, hierarchy is minimal and teams are small and talent-dense. We operate established products with the ambition, agility, and urgency of a startup. Across the company, we integrate AI deeply into how we work so that human judgment and machine intelligence reinforce each other.

For a talented, driven, and collaborative individual, working at Bending Spoons is an opportunity to learn, make an impact, and progress their career at an exceptionally high rate. That’s our promise to such a candidate.

A few examples of your responsibilities

  • Build software that matters.
Take real ownership from idea to production, creating systems used by millions and evolving them into products at scale.
  • Amplify your impact with AI.
Integrate the most powerful AI tools directly into your development workflow—design, implementation, testing, and documentation—to move faster while maintaining high standards for correctness, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Master your toolkit.
Work across diverse stacks with end-to-end ownership, choosing the right technologies for each challenge. From monoliths to microservices, gRPC to REST, Kubernetes to Docker, Python to Rust—you’ll apply technologies thoughtfully, focusing on depth and purpose rather than trends.
  • Simplify relentlessly.
Question every layer of complexity. Improve architectures, pipelines, and codebases to build systems that are simpler, more scalable, and easier to maintain.

What we look for

  • Reasoning ability.
Given the necessary knowledge, you can solve complex problems. You think from first principles, and structure your ideas sharply. You resist the influence of biases. You identify and take care of the details that matter.
  • Drive.
You’re extremely ambitious in everything you do—and your initiative, effort, and tenacity match the intensity of your ambition. You feel deeply responsible for your work. You hold yourself to a high—and rising—bar.
  • Team spirit.
You give generously and without the expectation of receiving in return. You support the best idea, not your idea. You're always happy to get your hands dirty to help your team. You’re reliable, honest, and transparent.
  • Proficiency in English.
You read, write, and speak proficiently in English.

What we offer

  • Incredibly talented, entrepreneurial teams.
You’ll work in small, result-oriented, autonomous teams alongside some of the brightest people in your field.
  • An exceptional opportunity for growth.
We go to great lengths to hire individuals of outstanding potential—then, our priority is to put them in the ideal position to thrive. Spooners in their 20s lead products worth hundreds of millions of dollars. And if you’ve got what it takes, you’ll soon be playing an essential role in major projects, too.
  • All. These. Benefits.
Flexible hours, remote working, unlimited backing for learning and training, top-of-the-market health insurance, a rich relocation package, generous parental support, and a yearly retreat to a stunning location. We help each Spooner set up the conditions to do their best work.
  • A flexible start date and part-time options.
You don't need to wait until graduation to apply. We offer flexible start dates and the possibility to begin part-time, transitioning to full-time as you complete your degree. Many Spooners joined before graduating and progressively took on greater responsibility, with arrangements that allowed them to do so without compromising their education.
  • Competitive pay and access to company equity at a discount.
Typical annual salary offers range from £85,797 to £151,436 in London and from €66,065 to €107,837 elsewhere in Europe. The lower end of these ranges applies to candidates with little or no relevant experience, while exceptionally experienced candidates may receive offers of up to £316,052 in London or €240,330 elsewhere in Europe. Candidates offered a permanent contract may choose to receive part of their compensation in discounted company equity.

Commitment & contract
Permanent or fixed-term. Full-time.

Location
Milan (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Warsaw (Poland), London (UK), or fully remote from eligible countries.

The selection process
In our screening process, we prioritize verifiable signals of excellence, regardless of seniority. There are no preferential paths beyond what your application demonstrates, and we evaluate every candidate through the same process.

Some people hold back because they feel they lack experience or have an “imperfect” CV. If you like the role and believe you could excel over time, don’t self-reject.

All applications go through our careers page, which is the only way to be considered. If you pass our screening, you’ll be asked to complete one or more tests. They are challenging, may involve unfamiliar problems, and can take several hours. To learn more about what to expect throughout the selection process, you can find additional information here.

We set the bar high and won’t extend an offer until we’re confident we’ve found the right candidate. This is why a job may remain open for months or be reposted several times.

We consider all applicants for employment and provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities—please let us know through this form.

Before you apply
If you’ve applied before but didn't receive an offer, we recommend waiting at least one year before applying again.

Bending Spoons is a demanding environment. We’re extremely ambitious and we hold ourselves—and one another—to a high standard. While this tends to lead to extraordinary learning, achievement, and career growth, it also requires significant commitment.

To help you ramp up quickly and set yourself up for success, we expect you to spend most days in our Milan office during your first few months with us, regardless of your long-term work location. It’s the best way to rapidly absorb our company culture and build trust with your new teammates. We’ll support you with generous travel and accommodation assistance. After that, you’re welcome to work from one of our offices, or remotely from approved countries—depending on what we agree at the offer stage.
