We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build the trusted data foundations that enable measurement, insight, and continuous improvement across the Technology Division—spanning SaaS platforms, internal systems, and mechatronics-based products (electromechanical, hardware, embedded software).

The primary objective of this role is to design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines, integrations, and analytics-ready models that bring together fragmented operational, engineering, and product data into a trusted foundation for KPI implementation and executive reporting. This role ensures that performance data is accessible, consistent, scalable, and fit for use across the organization.

About The Role

This role sits at the intersection of Data Engineering, Data Platform Delivery, and Analytics Enablement. You will work across business and engineering systems to connect data from multiple sources, establish robust ingestion and transformation pipelines, and create well-structured datasets that support KPI frameworks, business intelligence, and deeper analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Data Platform, Pipelines & Integration

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and integrate data from multiple business and engineering systems.
  • Connect fragmented source systems into a reliable and governed data foundation for KPI measurement, reporting, and analytics.
  • Develop robust ETL/ELT processes using SQL, Python, Databricks, and related technologies.

Data Modelling & KPI Enablement

  • Create and maintain analytics-ready data models that support trusted, reusable reporting across the Technology Division.
  • Enable KPI implementation by structuring data so that measures are consistently defined, traceable to source systems, and automatically calculated where possible.
  • Partner with the Technology Performance Analyst and business stakeholders to translate metric definitions into scalable technical models while ensuring semantic consistency across domains so that the same metric means the same thing across teams, products, and reporting views.

Lakehouse / Data Lakehouse Engineering

  • Build and evolve the division’s data platform capabilities using Databricks or equivalent modern data platform technologies.
  • Design data structures and transformation layers that support reporting, self-service analytics, and future advanced analytics use cases.

Data Quality, Governance & Reliability

  • Implement data quality controls, validation checks, and reconciliation processes to improve trust in data used for decision-making.
  • Support data governance practices including lineage, traceability, consistency, and controlled access to data assets.
  • Identify and resolve data issues across upstream and downstream systems, working with source-system owners where needed.

Engineering Ecosystem & Toolchain Integration

  • Work across engineering and operational toolchains to connect data spanning requirements, design, build, test, deployment, support, and product performance.
  • Integrate data from sources such as ALM/PLM platforms, CI/CD systems, telemetry/IoT feeds, operational applications, and other systems of record.
  • Help create a joined-up view of engineering flow, delivery performance, reliability, quality, and lifecycle signals across hardware and software environments.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Analytics Enablement

  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Product Ownership, RSO Engineering, Data Solutions, Information Security, and Applied Sciences to understand source systems, data meaning, and business context.
  • Translate business and reporting requirements into reliable datasets, pipeline enhancements, and reusable data assets.
  • Communicate technical constraints, trade-offs, and opportunities clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Skills (Essential)

Strong experience with:

  • SQL for querying, transformation, and performance optimization
  • Python for data engineering, automation, and integration
  • Databricks (or equivalent modern data platform)
  • Building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Data modelling for analytics and reporting
  • Version control and disciplined development practices

Data Engineering Expertise (Essential)

Experience in senior data engineering or closely related roles.

Strong understanding of:

  • Data integration across multiple source systems
  • Designing trusted data foundations for analytics and KPI reporting
  • Data quality, lineage, governance, and reliability practices
  • Working with complex, multi-source datasets in operational and engineering environments

Collaboration & Communication (Essential)

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to gather requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with mechatronics environments (electromechanical systems, hardware, embedded software).
  • Exposure to PLM/ALM ecosystems and engineering toolchains.
  • Exposure to IoT/telemetry and product performance data.
  • Experience supporting Power BI or other BI/reporting consumption layers.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methods.

Our Values

  • We work together
  • We believe in people
  • We won’t accept the ‘way it has always been done
  • We listen to learn
  • We’re trying to do the right thing

Описание вакансии

We're looking for an experienced and driven Senior Data Engineer who can independently lead new projects and build data solutions from the ground up. You love turning complex datasets into actionable insights through precise queries, robust data modeling, and meticulous quality assurance. Above all, you bring a structured, rigorous approach to data correctness — because accurate data is what keeps our clients' strategic decisions on solid ground.

Your analytical mindset and strong communication skills will enable you to effectively translate data into value-generating insights for our client's strategic decision-making.

On a personal note, we seek a proactive team player with a problem-solving attitude, excellent communication skills, adaptability in fast-paced environments, and an eagerness to continuously learn and take on new challenges. You're comfortable owning projects end to end, working autonomously, and navigating an environment with a large and complex dataset.

Tech experience we are looking for
👨‍💻

  • You're a senior engineer — we care more about demonstrated experience and command of best practices than a specific number of years, but you should be able to architect and build from scratch with minimal guidance.
  • You excel in writing sophisticated SQL queries, including advanced data operations such as joins, fan-out, window functions (lead(), lag()), and aggregations.
  • You have strong experience with relational databases.
  • You have practical experience working with Snowflake for data warehousing and analytics.
  • You're comfortable with dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformation and modeling. Experience is preferred but not mandatory — if you're senior and a fast learner, we're happy to support you getting up to speed.
  • You work fluently with Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
  • You adopt a rigorous, structured QA approach, performing detailed testing of SQL and data checks to ensure accuracy and reliability — treating data correctness as business-critical.
  • Familiarity with event tracking platforms like Snowplow is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with business intelligence tools such as Looker (or similar tools like Tableau or PowerBI), including dashboard creation and data modeling, is a plus.
  • Excellent documentation skills, clearly explaining complex data flows and logic to technical and non-technical team members.

What we had in mind for you
🧩

  • Independently lead new data projects end to end — from architecture and design through delivery — freeing up the wider team to focus on ongoing business priorities.
  • Develop, manage, and optimize data pipelines from data ingestion to transformation and analysis.
  • Write precise and efficient SQL queries to support complex analytical scenarios and reporting needs.
  • Perform comprehensive, structured QA and testing for data accuracy and model reliability, catching issues before they reach business decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with analysts, product managers, and developers to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Maintain and develop automated data models, ensuring usability and accuracy.
  • Create thorough documentation and visual diagrams of data flows and assets.
  • Actively help pay down existing technical debt and shape the foundations of a large, complex data platform.
  • Continuously seek improvements to existing data processes and propose innovative solutions to data-related challenges.

Why you'll enjoy working at d.labs
💜

  • We collaborate on exciting international projects, making a tangible difference.
  • We’re a remote-first company, with team members from different locations in the CET time zone.
  • Being remote-first means we offer a lot of flexibility in organizing your work schedule.
  • Instead of traditional hierarchies, we use tribes and competencies inspired by the Spotify model.
  • Our teams are cross-functional, project-focused, and include developers, product managers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and product designers, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
  • We’re proud of our teamwork and genuinely enjoy working together.
  • Our senior experts and managers actively support your professional growth and success.
  • We offer fair pay and clear opportunities for career advancement.
  • Regular monthly 1-on-1 meetings with our managers.
  • If you’re based in Slovenia, you’ll have access to our development center in Ljubljana and coworking office in Maribor, with the flexibility to choose between working from home or the office.
  • Our dedicated HR team prioritizes your well-being, connectedness, and personal growth.
  • We love spending time together, organizing multiple team-building events per year, including a summer off-site, a New Year's party, and more.

💰
Compensation:
€3,400–€5,000 gross monthly, depending on experience and seniority.

If you’re ready to embrace this challenge and join our innovative team, we’d love to hear from you!
