Hi there! 👋🏻
While this position is officially marked with a location in Slovenia, it is open for the whole Balkan region.
We're looking for an experienced and driven Senior Data Engineer who can independently lead new projects and build data solutions from the ground up. You love turning complex datasets into actionable insights through precise queries, robust data modeling, and meticulous quality assurance. Above all, you bring a structured, rigorous approach to data correctness — because accurate data is what keeps our clients' strategic decisions on solid ground.
Your analytical mindset and strong communication skills will enable you to effectively translate data into value-generating insights for our client's strategic decision-making.
On a personal note, we seek a proactive team player with a problem-solving attitude, excellent communication skills, adaptability in fast-paced environments, and an eagerness to continuously learn and take on new challenges. You're comfortable owning projects end to end, working autonomously, and navigating an environment with a large and complex dataset.
Tech experience we are looking for 👨 💻
- You're a senior engineer — we care more about demonstrated experience and command of best practices than a specific number of years, but you should be able to architect and build from scratch with minimal guidance.
- You excel in writing sophisticated SQL queries, including advanced data operations such as joins, fan-out, window functions (lead(), lag()), and aggregations.
- You have strong experience with relational databases.
- You have practical experience working with Snowflake for data warehousing and analytics.
- You're comfortable with dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformation and modeling. Experience is preferred but not mandatory — if you're senior and a fast learner, we're happy to support you getting up to speed.
- You work fluently with Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
- You adopt a rigorous, structured QA approach, performing detailed testing of SQL and data checks to ensure accuracy and reliability — treating data correctness as business-critical.
- Familiarity with event tracking platforms like Snowplow is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with business intelligence tools such as Looker (or similar tools like Tableau or PowerBI), including dashboard creation and data modeling, is a plus.
- Excellent documentation skills, clearly explaining complex data flows and logic to technical and non-technical team members.
What we had in mind for you 🧩
- Independently lead new data projects end to end — from architecture and design through delivery — freeing up the wider team to focus on ongoing business priorities.
- Develop, manage, and optimize data pipelines from data ingestion to transformation and analysis.
- Write precise and efficient SQL queries to support complex analytical scenarios and reporting needs.
- Perform comprehensive, structured QA and testing for data accuracy and model reliability, catching issues before they reach business decisions.
- Collaborate closely with analysts, product managers, and developers to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Maintain and develop automated data models, ensuring usability and accuracy.
- Create thorough documentation and visual diagrams of data flows and assets.
- Actively help pay down existing technical debt and shape the foundations of a large, complex data platform.
- Continuously seek improvements to existing data processes and propose innovative solutions to data-related challenges.
