PROGRAMME description

IRIS² is the new European Union secure satellite communications constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.

SES – together with other consortium partners and core members – was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS² multi-orbit satellite constellation.

The IRIS² team enters the next project phase and there is a strong need for support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future.

Role Description Summary
Work requirements
The Software IVV Test and Integration Engineer is responsible for software integration, verification and validation of MCC/SMO components, O-RAN interfaces and end-to-end 5G-NTN orchestration workflows. The role includes defining test strategies, preparing test plans and automation, validating APIs and ICDs, integrating software subcomponents, troubleshooting defects, generating test evidence and supporting system acceptance across MCC, SMO, SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS, RAN and Core environments.

General Work Requirements

  • Define and execute software integration, verification and validation strategies for MCC/SMO subcomponents, O-RAN interfaces and 5G-NTN orchestration workflows.
  • Prepare test plans, test cases, test automation scripts and acceptance evidence covering API testing, system testing, interface testing and end-to-end workflow validation.
  • Integrate and validate MCC/SMO interfaces with SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS, RAN, Core and related orchestration or management functions.
  • Validate ICDs, interface assumptions, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, error handling, alarms, events, logs and operational procedures during integration campaigns.
  • Identify integration risks, troubleshoot defects, support defect management, coordinate technical clarification with vendors and contribute to system acceptance readiness.

Qualifications Background And Experience
Qualification Basis

  • Master's degree in engineering or science, preferably in Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in telecom software IVV, system integration, validation labs, vendor integration or acceptance testing required; for Senior Engineer, 8+ years of relevant industry experience is desirable.
  • Strong skills in software integration, verification and validation, test strategy definition, test automation, API testing, system testing, troubleshooting and defect management.
  • Good understanding of MCC/SMO architecture, 5G-NTN, O-RAN interfaces, RAN/Core integration, SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS interactions and end-to-end orchestration workflows.

Essential Experience

  • Hands-on experience integrating software components, executing IVV campaigns, defining test procedures, automating test cases, performing API testing and validating system behavior against requirements.
  • Experience validating interfaces and ICDs between MCC, SMO, SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS, RAN, Core and other orchestration or management subsystems.
  • Knowledge of 5G-NTN, O-RAN/SMO concepts, RAN/Core integration principles, management interfaces, service orchestration workflows and telecom system acceptance practices.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, log analysis, defect reproduction, defect reporting, root-cause analysis, regression testing and coordination of fixes with software and vendor teams.
  • Ability to generate clear test evidence, integration reports, risk assessments, acceptance inputs and recommendations supporting architecture, procurement and system deployment decisions.

Highly desirable experience (several of the following):

  • Experience with test automation frameworks, API clients, REST/gRPC validation, NETCONF/YANG testing, message bus testing, CI/CD pipelines, Linux environments, containers and observability tools.
  • Knowledge of telecom integration environments involving MCC, SMO, O-RAN interfaces, 5G Core interactions, RAN labs, protocol simulators, traffic generators and end-to-end orchestration test benches.
  • Experience supporting vendor integration, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, system qualification, issue triage, regression campaigns and formal acceptance reviews.
  • Experience contributing to RFP/RFQ technical annexes, test and acceptance requirements, interface clarification, vendor technical evaluation, gap analysis and integration planning.

  • Management of technology development, work with cross discipline teams (software experts, IVV engineers, RAN architects, SMO experts, core network experts, system engineers, satellite and telecom experts, vendors, procurement, sales, business experts, etc.)
  • Research and Development project experience, including integration planning, validation strategy, test automation, system acceptance, defect management and technical risk reduction
  • Communication skills, ability to explain integration findings, interface issues, test evidence, defect impacts and acceptance risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear test plans, test reports, integration notes, defect reports, acceptance evidence and technical recommendations
  • Commitment to deadlines and willingness to meet tight software integration, validation, procurement, acceptance and deployment schedules
  • The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the national regulations as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
  • Willing to work 60% onsite from office
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes

Your role

Key responsibilities in your new role

  • Drive systematic implementation of Thinking 6 Sigma + 8D methodology as the standard problem-solving approach in TTI, champion a positive failure culture
  • Build and sustain a T6S community within TTI
  • Identify and lead advanced T6S initiatives in cross-functional environments
  • Act as lead moderator for 8D and 5-Why problem-solving sessions across TTI, as well as facilitate cross-functional problem-solving teams
  • Support management in identifying project ideas from strategic targets and scoping them into executable projects, acting as a consultant to management on quality and problem-solving matters
  • Drive quality management system continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to TTI's strategic quality roadmap and close identified gaps
  • Consolidate training needs at TTI and propose measures for T6S practitioners at various belt levels
  • Travel occasionally between sites to understand pain points and support implementation

Your profile

Qualifications And Skills To Help You Succeed
You will be the driver for systematic problem-solving and quality excellence in our Test Technology & Innovation (TTI) organization. You will promote critical quality leadership capacity and enable TTI to fulfil its mandate to own Quality at Test. For this, you should have experience moderating cross-functional problem-solving teams, as well as excellent facilitation and moderation skills for workshops and problem-solving sessions.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical field
  • 6+ years of experience in semiconductors with knowledge in Test Equipment and, Test Development and Operations
  • Willingness to obtain or renew T6S Green Belt certification after hiring
  • Strong expertise in 8D methodology and root cause analysis (5-Why, Ishikawa, etc.), and experience with DMAIC project methodology
  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional environments without direct authority
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and drive initiatives
  • Fluent English and German (written and spoken) – required for international collaboration, local operations and stakeholder engagement
  • Previous experience in training and coaching roles

Your mission

As a Flight Test Engineer & Onsite Test Coordinator, you are the "Conductor of the Flight Line." Depending on your seniority, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of our flight test campaigns, from initial planning and hazard assessment to execution and deep-dive data analysis.

Beyond the technical data, you serve as the primary Onsite Leader. You are the person who ensures testing priorities are crystal clear to everyone on the range. You manage the daily tempo, coordinate the crew, and ensure that every person, from pilots to software engineers, knows exactly which tests are being conducted and when. Your mission is to transform raw flight data into actionable insights while maintaining a high-tempo, disciplined, and safe testing environment.

Responsibilities

The System Integration Senior Engineer will help lead the Nyx system end‑to‑end integration and verification, with a focus on functional platforms (Software in the Loop Platform, Processor in the Loop Platform, Hardware in the Loop Platform, Functional Simulation Facility). You will define and execute test plans, manage requirement traceability, analyse test results, and close verification evidence across SIL/PIL/HIL and physical test campaigns. Working closely with subsystem leads, AIT teams, and external partners, you will identify integration risks, resolve anomalies, and ensure that all mechanical functions perform safely and reliably throughout the mission profile. This position requires a rigorous systems mindset, strong understanding of mechanical behaviour in the space environment, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary verification activities to successful closure.

Key Responsibilities
In your capacity a System Integration Senior Engineer, your role will continuously evolve, but initially your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Ensure the definition and implementation of the Nyx Earth system integration and verification activities, which meets technical and programmatic requirements and considers the adequacy of model philosophy, facilities availability, planning and costing.
  • Define plans and specifications with clear Success Criteria and support the generation of test procedures with the Functional Platform team.
  • Drive the technical discussions, preparation, organization and execution of the system verification campaigns, to ensure the closure of all system verification aspects, including nominal and off nominal spacecraft behaviors.
  • Organise the different reviews for incremental progress and ultimate closure of verification events.
  • Generate reports and drive the closure of the Items for Verification and Validation covered by the campaign.
  • Collaborate with all Functional Chain responsible and engineering disciplines to prepare and perform the system activities.
  • Process the anomalies occurring during the verification campaign in coordination with the Product Assurance Team and the rest of the Engineering Team.

What We Would Love To See From You
In the role of System Integration Senior Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, or another related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in systems design, analysis, and testing of aerospace or space-related systems, with a focus on integration of complex spacecraft and/or testing activities.
  • Hands-on hardware experience.
  • Practical experience / contact with functional test platforms, such as software in the loop, hardware in the loop, and bench testing.
  • Experience in the development and verification of space hardware.
  • Spacecraft systems knowledge.
