About Sthenos AI

Sthenos AI
is the AI developer of
EFA Group
, building intelligent, mission-ready solutions for defense and aerospace. With deep expertise in Command-and-Control (C2), cyber defense, computer vision, and autonomous systems, we design and deploy secure, field-proven AI that enhances operational efficiency and situational awareness. As part of a leading European defense ecosystem, we bring scalable innovation where it matters most - in the theater of operations. Internally, we are building a unified operations platform: a single system through which the entire company will run its daily work, with AI woven through every workflow. We have validated the concept with a working prototype and are now assembling a small senior team to build the production platform properly, from the ground up.

The Role

We are hiring a
Senior Frontend Engineer
to build the interface for our internal platform: the workspace where the entire company will do its daily work. You will own the front end architecture, build our design system, and turn complex operational workflows into interfaces people actually enjoy using.

This is a greenfield build with an unusual scope: one platform, many domains, designed for AI-native workflows from day one. You will be one of the first engineering hires, with real influence over architecture, tooling, and engineering culture. The prototype exists to learn from, not to maintain.

What You Will Do

  • Architect and build the platform front end in React and TypeScript from the ground up
  • Create and maintain a design system and component library used across all platform modules
  • Build complex, data-heavy interfaces: dashboards, tables with filtering and bulk actions, multi-step forms, approval flows, and document views
  • Build AI-native UI patterns: chat and assistant interfaces, streaming responses, inline AI suggestions
  • Own front end state management, data fetching, and caching strategy against the platform APIs
  • Ensure quality across the board: accessibility, responsiveness, performance, and cross-browser support
  • Set up front end tooling, testing, and CI standards
  • Work directly with the back end engineer on API contracts and with stakeholders on UX for their workflows

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of front end engineering experience in React
  • Strong TypeScript and modern React (hooks, suspense, server-state libraries such as TanStack Query)
  • Proven experience building large, data-dense business applications, not only marketing sites or simple SPAs
  • Experience building or significantly contributing to a design system or shared component library
  • Solid grasp of front end architecture: state management, routing, code splitting, performance profiling
  • Good product and UX instincts; able to work from rough requirements without a full-time designer
  • Comfortable in a small team: pragmatic, self-directed, strong written communication

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI product interfaces (chat UIs, streaming, optimistic updates)
  • Experience with data visualization libraries
  • Familiarity with Python back ends and API co-design
  • Basic design skills (Figma) or close collaboration experience with designers
  • Experience with internal tools, ERP, or B2B SaaS products

Your Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a sharp eye for usability
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small team
  • Passion for AI-driven products and for crafting interfaces people enjoy using
  • Structured and detail-oriented way of working: consistency, accessibility, and polish matter to you
  • Pragmatic mindset: prefers simple, maintainable solutions over clever ones
  • Openness to feedback and continuous improvement
  • Good communication skills; comfortable discussing UX and technical trade-offs with stakeholders
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken

About Change
Change has been around longer than most fintechs you've heard of. Our Dutch entity was incorporated in Amsterdam in 2010, and we have been MiFID II authorised since 2015, a decade of operating as a regulated investment firm. Today we serve around 120,000 verified users across all 30 EEA countries, with full passporting rights, and we are MiCA-authorised as one of the early CASPs in the Netherlands.

We operate an app-based investment platform built for retail investors. Our users trade cryptocurrencies, alongside CFDs on stocks, indices, currencies, gold, oil and other financial instruments — all in one place, on mobile, with the regulatory protections of a Dutch investment firm.

We are a small senior team with a practical, low-bureaucracy culture. We value ownership, clear processes, strong judgement and real operational discipline over unnecessary ceremony.

We are hiring a
Senior Engineer
who treats AI agents and tooling as a core part of the SDLC — building, shipping and operating systems with tools like Codex, Claude Code and automated reviewers as standard engineering practice.

What You Will Do

  • Take ownership of one or two core domains end-to-end, execution, custody integration, market data, risk, or the trading core, and ship measurable improvements against real, regulated, money-moving systems.
  • Contribute meaningfully to the Kotlin-vs-.NET architectural evaluation: prototype, benchmark, document, push back. Help us produce an honest decision rather than a fashionable one.
  • Define and prove out our agentic SDLC: how we use coding agents in design, in review, in testing, in incident response. Make the patterns explicit so the rest of the team can copy them.
  • Raise the engineering bar by example; clean, well-tested, observable code that other engineers want to read and extend. Become the person whose PRs others learn from.
  • Partner closely with the Dutch business hub, our compliance and marketing functions, and our infrastructure team. Speed and regulatory standing are not in tension here; we expect you to deliver both.

Who We Are Looking For
Engineering depth

  • 5+ years building production systems where correctness and uptime matter, ideally in finance, payments, trading or similarly demanding environments.
  • Strong expertise in either the modern JVM ecosystem (Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka) or modern .NET (.NET, C#, ASP.NET Core), with openness to work across both.
  • Comfortable with AWS, EKS, observability and infrastructure concepts; able to work confidently around cloud-native systems.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven systems, idempotency, reconciliation and the realities of distributed systems in production.
  • Systems thinker who can clearly communicate architecture, boundaries, data flows and constraints — for both engineers and coding agents.

AI-native, agentic-first

  • You use coding agents (Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, Aider or similar) daily and understand both their strengths and failure modes.
  • You have built or customised at least one real agentic workflow, tool or automation used in practice.
  • You have clear judgement on where humans should stay in the loop in regulated environments. You are not impressed by demos.
  • You are impressed by evals.
  • You know how to provide the context, structure and guardrails agents need to operate effectively across complex tasks.

Mindset

  • You communicate in writing well enough that meetings shrink. You write design docs that other engineers actually read.
  • You give and take direct feedback without making it personal. You are visibly comfortable saying "I don't know" and "I was wrong".
  • You want to grow your scope and impact here, not because of the title, but because you want the leverage. We will invest in that growth.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a MiFID II, MiCA, PSD2 or similarly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with order management, market connectivity (FIX, REST/WebSocket exchange APIs), or crypto custody (BitGo, Fireblocks).
  • Open-source contributions, particularly in the agent/MCP ecosystem.
  • Greek or Dutch language is welcome but not required, we work in English.

What We Offer

  • Hybrid role (Athens)
  • Travel to Amsterdam and Estonia a few times a year
  • Competitive base salary
  • Perks and benefits
  • Learning budget to keep you sharp
  • Real ownership and influence
  • Fast decisions, zero politics
  • A real shot at growing with the company long term

Process
Fast-moving and straightforward

  • Intro call
  • Hiring manager interview
  • Take-home assignment
  • Conversation with senior management

This role is demanding but also rewarding. If you want to build, take ownership, and grow with a startup, we’d love to talk. Apply now.
