Job Description
We are seeking a
Senior HCL Workload Automation Engineer
to support and optimize large-scale enterprise batch processing environments, ensuring business-critical workloads execute reliably and within SLA commitments.

This role combines production support, workload automation engineering, batch performance optimization, root cause analysis, and operational automation. The successful candidate will act as a senior technical contributor, driving resolution of complex incidents, mentoring team members, and improving platform reliability through automation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Skills & Experience

  • 4-8 years of experience supporting enterprise batch scheduling, workflow/workload automation, or production support environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Enterprise Workload Automation platforms, including job scheduling, job streams/workflows, dependency management, calendars, resource management, monitoring, and batch operations support.
  • Experience with one or more scheduling platforms such as HCL Workload Automation (HWA), IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS), Maestro, Control-M, AutoSys, Dollar Universe, or equivalent enterprise workload automation solutions.
  • Strong experience supporting Linux and Unix environments, including process troubleshooting, logs, file systems, networking, and performance analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unix/Linux commands and operating system fundamentals, with the ability to troubleshoot batch execution, process failures, file transfers, and scheduler-related issues.
  • Hands-on experience with Shell/Bash scripting in Unix/Linux environments for automation, job execution, batch processing, operational tooling, and workflow support.
  • Proven experience managing complex job dependencies, workflow orchestration, scheduling rules, critical-path execution, and cross-system workload dependencies.
  • Experience troubleshooting and recovering failed batch workloads and production incidents in SLA-driven environments.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for operational troubleshooting and querying scheduling or application databases.
  • Experience with ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
  • Experience using ServiceNow, BMC Helix, or comparable ITSM platforms.
  • Ability to perform technical root cause analysis and implement sustainable production fixes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across application, infrastructure, database, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with HCL Workload Automation (HWA), IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS), or Maestro.
  • Experience with workload automation platform administration, including scheduling servers, agents, security, upgrades, and patching activities.
  • Experience implementing automated recovery workflows, self-healing mechanisms, retry strategies, and operational automation.
  • Knowledge of enterprise monitoring and alerting solutions with SLA-based incident detection.
  • Experience leading major incident investigations and coordinating cross-functional recovery efforts.
  • Previous mentoring, coaching, or technical leadership responsibilities within support or operations teams.

Set Yourself Apart With

  • Python or Perl scripting for operational tooling, log analysis, and automation development.
  • Ansible experience for agent configuration management and deployment automation.
  • Kafka integrations, message-driven scheduling, or REST API-based workload orchestration.
  • Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes-based batch processing environments.
  • Experience with cloud data orchestration technologies such as Azure Data Factory or Databricks.
  • Knowledge of ELK, Splunk, Datadog, or similar observability platforms for batch analytics and proactive monitoring.
  • Experience modernizing workload automation platforms through containerized agents and cloud-native architectures.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build new software systems spanning data processing, infrastructure, deployment, and development.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in user research, design, and product to understand educators’ needs, and to translate them into the right technical decisions and systems.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Work with partner engineering teams across Learning and Education and elsewhere in Google to ingest, analyze, and surface key sources of education data into the Analytics platform.

Responsibilities:
The Opportunity

The main purpose of this position is to support accelerated volume growth and cost to serve optimization through perform and deliver route engineering design solutions within the Route planning.

  • This role will be in charge of following service requests from the OU/MU through the Field Strategy Manager and performing solutions using the technological platform (Territory Planner).
  • Interaction and alignment with the Route Planning Coordinator role to clarify items within the request
  • Interaction and alignment with the Project / Change Manager to get feedback from route engineering solution in place on the field, in case any adjustment is required for solution fine tuning based on performance.
  • Coordinate with their team members (other route engineers) for support requirements and technical needs

Your Impact

  • Expert using the software to perform route engineering solution based on request from BU through the Route Design Managers (RDMs) (Execute)
  • Utilize Route Planning Gold Standard Route Engineering Process (Execute)
  • Clarify and if necessary, modify route engineering solution based on feedback from performance in field (Execute)
  • Build reports to follow up on solution delivery performance with Route Planning Coordinator (Support)
  • Support on Strategic Routing continuous improvement plan and implementation (Support)
  • Warranty the achievement of the SLA commitment with each project.
