Senior Python Engineer - Contract

About the Role

Softwire is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a team delivering a data migration project.

You’ll join a high-calibre team and be expected to operate with autonomy and thrive at the intersection of engineering excellence and client influence. You’ll help with the data migration between two systems by owning the technical quality of end-to-end solutions. You will take a role across complex, multi-stakeholder engagements, working alongside technical leads, architects, and client teams.

We expect the successful candidate to work at least 2-3 days per week from the Bucharest office.

KeyResponsibilities

• Building SQL queries and data pipeline to support the migration of data to the new database.
• Write clean, maintainable Python code for data processing.
• Collaborate with team members to deliver well-tested, production-ready software.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and sprint ceremonies.
• Be outcome-focused and have a strong track record of engaging effectively with other team members and with clients, to ensure you deliver high impact results.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer on commercial projects.
• Strong Python development skills.
• Solid understanding of SQL databases — schema design, querying, and data modelling.
• A collaborative working style with good communication skills.
• The ability to collaborate closely with client stakeholders and translate business requirements into tangible outcomes

Nice to Have

• Experience with data platform modernisation.
• Familiarity with agile/scrum teams.
• Experience in some of the following technologies is desirable, but not essential:
• Snowflake
• C# and the .NET ecosystem
• Frontend web, including JavaScript / Typescript / React
• AWS
