Why This Role Matters
This isn't a role where you hand off a ticket and move on. As a Software Engineer II, you own features from design through production — and when things break, you help fix them, because the platform you're building is one members depend on to manage their health. The work is technical, the stakes are real, and the scope grows with you.

What You'll Actually Do
Build and ship platform features:
Design, code, and test new components and enhancements across web platforms using Java and Kotlin.

Resolve production issues:
Investigate and troubleshoot complex issues across system interfaces and underlying services, driving them through to resolution.

Contribute to sprint delivery:
Provide engineering input during grooming, planning, and kickoffs — estimating stories, surfacing dependencies, and defining implementation details.

Own code quality:
Conduct code reviews, uphold development standards, and contribute to architecture and framework decisions.

Improve platform performance and monitoring:
Monitor production health and enhance observability tooling to catch issues before they affect members.

Reduce technical debt systematically:
Identify debt, write clear user stories, and define actionable strategies for long-term fixes.

• 2+ years in a software development role

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Java and/or .NET or similar
• Object-oriented programming
• Service and API development for web and mobile applications
• Full software development lifecycle practices including testing, monitoring, and design best practices
• Experience identifying and resolving production issues
• Ability to write user stories for production issues, technical debt, and platform improvements

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) roles.
• Cloud Platforms: Strong hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure management. Experience with GCP is a plus.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep proficiency with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Containers & Orchestration: Strong expertise with Docker and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, ECS, or equivalent).
• Ruby Ecosystem Knowledge: Proven experience configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting applications built in Ruby on Rails (understanding of Bundler, Puma/Passenger, and memory management).

Nice-to-Haves

• Software Development Background: A strong understanding of modern software engineering principles. If you started your career as a developer and transitioned into DevOps, this is a huge plus!
• AI/ML Infrastructure Experience: Practical experience supporting AI/ML features (e.g., working with vector databases like Pinecone/Milvus/pgvector, managing API integrations with major LLM providers, or handling local model deployments and GPU scaling).

Your Day-to-day In This Position

• Own the Infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
• Empower R&D: Work hand-in-hand with our small R&D team (5 engineers) to streamline CI/CD pipelines, reduce build times, and make deploying code seamless.
• Bridge the Dev/Ops Gap: Collaborate alongside the development team to debug performance bottlenecks, optimize Ruby/Rails environment configurations, and improve overall system reliability.
• Collaborate on AI Scaling: Partner with developers to build, monitor, and optimize the infrastructure required to run, fine-tune, and query our emerging AI capabilities.
• Monitoring & Reliability: Implement and manage robust logging, alerting, and monitoring tools to ensure high uptime and quick incident response.

This role sits at the core of product delivery — independently building features, resolving production issues, and bringing real technical depth to sprint planning. You work alongside Tech Leads across the full development cycle, which means your decisions shape what ships and how it holds up in production. The platform you're building serves members managing their health, so reliability and craftsmanship aren't optional. What You'll Actually Do

Design and ship platform features: Build, test, and enhance new components and features for web platforms using Java, Kotlin, and Angular as a member of a product delivery team.Contribute to sprint planning: Participate in refinement, planning, and kick-off ceremonies — estimating stories, surfacing technical complexity, and defining implementation details before work begins.Monitor and respond to production incidents: Proactively watch production systems and take ownership of incident response when issues arise.Write robust, well-tested code: Automate and unit-test code to handle edge cases, usability scenarios, and general reliability requirements.Apply AI across the development lifecycle: Use AI tooling actively throughout design, development, and testing to produce better software faster.
