Welcome to SMG Swiss Marketplace Group!

SMG is a pioneering network of online marketplaces and a leading European digital company that simplifies people’s lives with forward-looking products.

We operate leading marketplaces across real estate, automotive, general classifieds, and finance & insurance. We’re driven by our values:
Better Together, Aim High, and Act Responsibly.

Job Description

As a
Staff Frontend Engineer
, you'll be a hands-on technical leader with company-level impact across our Real Estate vertical. You’ll shape and evolve the frontend architecture powering our portals, create shared frontend solutions adopted by multiple teams, and orchestrate complex initiatives.

Meet the team!

At SMG, our strength lies in our people. Meet the Manager with whom you could work:

  • Yuliya Zvolskaya - Engineering Manager -
    LinkedIn

At a high level, you will:

  • Set technical direction
    for frontend across multiple teams,
    building alignment
among engineers, product managers, designers and senior stakeholders.
  • Influence
roadmaps, investment decisions, and engineering priorities by connecting frontend strategy to business outcomes, delivery risk and customer impact.
  • Defining and
driving the culture of engineering excellence
, while leading the evolution of our Real Estate frontend architecture to support future requirements, setting and improving SLAs/SLOs and anticipating ripple effects across systems together with other engineers and principals.
  • Act as a
    trusted technical leader
across teams and locations for frontend topics, shaping how web experiences are built across our organisation and influencing decisions at both team and leadership levels.
  • Represent frontend engineering in cross-functional and leadership discussions, helping the organisation make better long-term technical trade-offs.
  • Design and create shared frontend libraries, components and tooling (e.g. design system, performance monitoring) that are widely used by internal teams, focusing on pragmatic, reusable solutions and driving their adoption.
  • Orchestrate multi-system refactors and migrations like framework upgrades, cross-product harmonisation.
  • Mentor and coach
other engineers through structured mentorship, pairing, and feedback, helping them grow their skills and closing skill gaps you observe in the organisation by organising structured trainings for our people.
  • Model a healthy feedback culture, helping people navigate tough conversations and conflicts in a constructive, blameless way.
  • Challenge and
    improve team and cross-team processes
, suggesting changes that improve focus, quality, and speed when needed.
  • You’ll still write plenty of code, but your impact will be measured just as much by how you multiply the effectiveness of others as by your individual output.

Your day-to-day

  • You'll be part of a product team, splitting time about half and half between product delivery and staff responsibilities, depending on the current needs and priorities
  • Innovate, design, implement, and deploy frontend-focused engineering solutions for our products, from discovery to production.
  • Build alignment across teams with different goals and constraints, and unblock progress on ambiguous, cross-cutting initiatives. Step in to create clarity, momentum, and shared ownership when needed.
  • Own the end-to-end technical vision for key user journeys like Homegate and Immoscout24 and more, with a strong focus on performance, accessibility, UX quality, and reliability
  • Lead cross-team frontend initiatives (for example: shared design system improvements, cross-brand UI harmonisation, performance budgets, or observability patterns).
  • Identify and surface cross-cutting technical bottlenecks, such as performance drags in the core user journey or build-time inefficiencies, and advocate for their resolution at the leadership level.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to shape technical strategy and trade-offs for new features and platform work
  • Partner with DevX to co-develop engineering 'blueprints' and health scorecards, setting the gold standard for what 'good' looks like in our frontend repositories
  • Evaluate, prototype, and introduce new frontend technologies and approaches (frameworks, tooling, patterns), document your findings, and drive adoption where they make sense
  • Own and evolve the Frontend ADR process, ensuring technical decisions are documented, socialised, and consistently implemented across our organisation
  • Guide and review the work of other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, guild, and informal coaching.
  • Help the team embrace and leverage AI & large language models in our engineering workflows and products
  • Contribute to and facilitate the frontend guild, tech chats, and other cross-team knowledge-sharing formats
  • Promote a culture of high-quality engineering: testing, monitoring with Datadog, observability, security, and operational excellence

Our Tech Stack

You’ll work primarily on the frontend, while collaborating with fullstack engineers:

  • Frontend:
mainly Vue.js and some React, both with TypeScript as the language of choice. We run a mix of client-side, server-side, pre-rendered, and hybrid web apps
  • Backend:
Node.js and TypeScript, serverless and microservices architecture in a cloud-based environment using AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, S3, and more)
  • Monitoring & Observability:
Mainly Datadog plus logging/alerting best practices
  • AI & Tooling:
We actively adopt the latest developments in AI technology and expect you to embrace innovation offered by large language models in your daily work

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience with the Vue.js or similar frameworks
  • Proven track record of implementing and maintaining automated frontend testing, using tools such as Jest, Vitest, and/or Cypress
  • Experience collaborating with designers using Figma (figma.com)
  • Strong experience building and evolving large-scale frontend applications in modern JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Proven track record of senior technical leadership in a Staff, Lead, or equivalent role
: leading complex cross-team initiatives, aligning diverse stakeholders, influencing decisions without direct authority, and taking responsibility from strategy through rollout and iteration.
  • Deep understanding of modern CI/CD for frontend, including automated release strategies and feature flagging in a microfrontend environment.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and driving adoption of shared frontend solutions (e.g. design system components, shared libraries, cross-cutting tooling)
  • Demonstrated experience influencing multiple teams or an entire product area, including driving alignment, adoption, and durable technical change across various teams.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers or tech leads, and raising the technical bar through coaching, feedback, and role modelling.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with Engineering- and Product leadership, as well as non-technical partners.
  • Evidence of defining a technical strategy and turning it into execution across teams.
  • Excellent English communication skills, spoken and written.
  • You can explain complex topics clearly to different audiences in an international team setting

We value engineers who:

  • Thrive in collaborative environments and are true team players
  • Have a growth mindset and are curious, we love growing together
  • Are passionate about frontend architecture and building & scaling cloud-based solutions
  • Are open to change and able to propose pragmatic solutions, not just point out problems
  • Feel free to challenge the status quo when it improves outcomes for users or the organisation.
  • Are creative, adaptable, and enjoy solving complex, ambiguous problems

You will stand out if you have:

  • Significant professional experience in software development (including time in senior/lead roles)
  • Deep experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React, or similar)
  • Solid hands-on experience building production applications with Vue 3
  • Strong understanding of web performance, accessibility, and SEO considerations for large user-facing sites
  • Prior working experience with APIs and microservices and how frontend apps best integrate with them
  • Prior working experience with cloud service providers like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud experience with server-side rendering / hybrid rendering patterns and edge / CDN optimisation
  • Experience integrating frontends with AWS Lambda

Additional Information

What do we offer?

  • 6 weeks of holidays per year (plus option to buy 10 extra)
  • 40-hour work week with flexitime (capped at 45 hours)
  • A hybrid work setup with flexibility to work remotely
  • Generous parental leave: 18 weeks for maternity and 6 weeks for paternity/adoption

apply for this job

Join the Wingtra team and become part of this venture-backed robotics scaleup with a global and international team of 125+ dedicated Wingtranauts who want to see their actions have a positive and lasting impact on the world. Founded more than 8 years ago at ETH Zurich, Europe’s leading robotics university, our goal is to build the best aerial robots to digitize the world at the push of a button and set the basis for faster and better decisions. Wingtra provides efficient and reliable data solutions to a variety of industries ranging from mining, construction and agriculture to humanitarian organizations, environmentalists and wildlife monitoring groups.

We are reaching for the stars and together we might just get there. Open communication, asking hard questions and valuing diverse viewpoints are but a few things that will help us achieve our goals. Above all we will never stop learning and striving to help each other reach our maximum potential.

Responsibilities

  • Productionize prototypes. Take AI-built prototypes from the GTM team and make them real: authentication and access scoping, error handling, data integrity, tests, monitoring, documentation, handover.
  • Own the infrastructure. Hosting, environments, CI/CD, secrets, backups, dependencies and releases for every GTM-owned service.
  • Own security for partner-facing software. Authentication and role/hierarchy scoping, handling of partner and end-customer data, and answering the security questions partners and enterprise customers ask.
  • Own the code. Repositories, code review, feature flags, and the standard a prototype has to meet before it ships - including the authority to send one back.
  • Run rollouts. Staged releases, pilot partners, rollback plans, in cooperation with the GTM team communication that goes with a release.
  • Build an integrated solution landscape. The future is about data - this role works with our internal data, process and product specialists to build the integration system that allows to use the right data in the right way across all tools and departments
  • Context infrastructure. You co-own the context layer that is used for our GTM, sales, csm and other agents.
  • Contribute to the AI engineering practice for Wingtra. Co-create the future of coding in a fast growing scaleup!

Requirements

  • University degree software engineering, computer science
  • Engineer who has operated software, not only built it. 3+ years full-stack; has run a customer-facing web application in production and been on the hook when it broke. TypeScript / Next.js, Postgres, a modern hosting platform.
  • AI-native. Coding agents are their default way of working, and they can review, harden and take ownership of code they did not write.
  • Security-literate practitioner. Authn/authz, multi-tenant scoping, secrets management, data-protection basics - enough to be the accountable owner without a security team behind them.
  • Integration-heavy background. CRM and ERP APIs (HubSpot, Odoo or equivalent), webhooks, and reconciling data across systems that disagree.
  • Product Management Experience. You can handle internal & external customer interactions and working with product management best practices
  • Holds a standard at a distance. Writes decisions down, communicates without being asked, and can send work back to people they rarely sit next to — including to this role’s own manager.

Plus

  • Commercial fluency. Reads a pricing model, a channel margin and a renewal term and understands why the business cares. Useful, not required - GTM brings the commercial framing, this role brings the engineering.
  • Experience in a partner or channel business, or with any two-tier distribution model
  • Has productionized other people’s prototypes before — an internal tools or platform team background

If you enjoy teamwork more than being the individual superhero, and if you thrive in a feedback-driven culture and an exciting, unconventional yet structured and progressive start-up environment, we would love to hear from you.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.
