How You’ll Make An Impact
We are seeking a talented, driven
Staff Software Automation Engineer
to join our growing Podcast Automation team. In this role, you will be partnering with a very high-performing team of engineers that build, own, and maintain backend and frontend services and products at scale. You will contribute to strategizing, designing, testing and productizing of new features & new components for the Podcast ecosystem at scale, while automating testing of all services under your team’s responsibility.

What You’ll Do

• Build and evolve automation solutions from scratch, including backend and frontend test frameworks, test data generators, supporting tools and utilities, and performance testing tools when needed.
• Implement and execute automated tests for backend components and web applications, analyze test results and trends, identify defects, and provide recommendations for quality improvements.
• Design and build end-to-end automated tests that cover real-world workflows involving complex systems such as UIs, APIs, microservices, big data pipelines, high-concurrency transactional ad delivery systems, and reporting components
• Maintain and improve existing automation frameworks and core testing infrastructure, with a focus on reliability, reusability, scalability, and extensibility.
• Own quality outcomes for assigned product areas or critical systems, including definition of quality signals, release readiness criteria, and risk-based go/no-go recommendations.
• Define meaningful test strategies and test plans that cover functional, integration, end-to-end, performance, scalability, stability, and usability aspects.
• Lead root-cause analysis for defects and reliability issues, and ensure corrective and preventative actions are completed, measured, and verified.
• Participate in requirements analysis, design, and implementation discussions, identifying gaps or risks in business and technical specifications.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, GTPO, and other teams to clarify scope, assess delivery timelines, and ensure smooth integration and end-to-end testing.
• Drive and influence automation and testing best practices inside and outside the team.
• Support other teams with end-to-end testing activities involving components from your team’s area.
• Coach engineers and partner teams on test design, automation practices, testability, and practical techniques that improve day-to-day quality .
• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in automation tools, testing techniques, and quality engineering practices.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a similar field
• 7+ years of proven experience as a Quality Automation Engineer or Software Developer in Test
• Solid understanding of engineering software processes, lifecycle methodology, configuration management, release management, and system verification and testing
• Ability to work independently and oversee entire projects or significant parts, focusing on completing the tasks on time
• Proven ability to research and become proficient in new technologies
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong ability to design comprehensive test strategies for complex features, covering functional, integration, regression, edge cases, negative scenarios, data validation, and end-to-end flows.
• Experience building and maintaining testing frameworks and automated test suites that are reliable, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with product risk and business impact.
• Ability to mentor other QA engineers and promote best practices in test design, automation quality, code review, and testing discipline.
• Mandatory technical expertise in the following areas:

• Strong proficiency in Java, or an equivalent object-oriented programming language, with solid understanding of OOP principles.
• Experience designing and building test automation frameworks for backend services and/or frontend applications.
• Hands-on experience building automated end-to-end testing stacks that span multiple components, services, and application layers.
• Experience with industry-standard testing libraries and tools such as Rest-Assured, JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, or similar.
• Good understanding and practical use of software design patterns, especially in the context of scalable and maintainable test automation frameworks.
• Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Spring, PicoContainer, Guice, or similar.
• Experience writing and working with SQL queries for data validation, investigation, and test automation purposes.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with continuous integration and delivery tools such as Jenkins, Git, Maven, GitLab, or similar.
• Experience working with Linux/Unix commands and shell scripting

• Nice-to-have expertise:

• API mocking and testing frameworks such as MockServer, WireMock, or similar.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, preferably AWS.
• Building and maintaining CI/CD infrastructure, preferably using GitLab pipelines.
• AWS services such as S3, Lambda, EC2, SQS, Athena, or similar.
