WAN ENGINEER

Rheinmetall 4iG Digital Services (R4) is a joint venture between Rheinmetall, a globally leading supplier of defense and automotive products, and 4iG, Hungary’s leading IT systems integrator. R4 has been founded end of 2022 with its headquarters in Budapest and the initial mission to provide project- and operations-related IT services to Rheinmetall’s local subsidiaries in Hungary and worldwide. Based on business requirements and opportunities, R4 plans to progressively expand the scope of its services for internal and external customers alike. In order to achieve our common goals, we count on you

• Implement, and maintain WAN and SD-WAN solutions across global data centers, regional hubs, and branch offices.
• Integrate cloud connectivity (Azure, AWS, GCP) into the global WAN infrastructure, ensuring performance, scalability, and security.
• Be part of network modernization projects, replacing legacy MPLS and VPN infrastructures with advanced, software defined WAN solutions.
• Ensure proper capacity planning, negotiate and coordinate the ordering process of ISP contracts.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, including architecture diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
• Participate in WAN cost optimization initiatives while ensuring performance and reliability.
• Support network automation initiatives, using tools such as Ansible, Python, or Terraform to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Monitor, analyze, and optimize network performance, implementing proactive measures for fault detection and resolution.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Security, Cloud, and Infrastructure Operations) to align network architecture with enterprise goals.
• Engage with vendors and service providers, reviewing technical designs, SLAs, and support strategies.
• Ensure the SLAs and KPis of the services are fulfilled end to end.
• Ensure network compliance with corporate security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

What you will need for successful work

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 6+ years of professional experience in enterprise networking, including WAN, LAN, and security technologies.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing SD-WAN solutions (Cisco, Fortinet, VMware VeloCloud, Aruba, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VRF, QoS).
• Experience with cloud networking and connectivity models (ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, VPN, SASE).
• Familiarity with network security principles and integration of firewalls, VPNs, and zero-trust architectures.
• Hands-on experience with network automation and monitoring tools (Ansible, Python, SD-WAN Technologies, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with Network Cores Services, like DDI, DHCP, DNS (like Infoblox)
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset & hands-on-mentality
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in an international, cross-functional environment.
• Fluent English verbally and by writing, German is a plus but not mandatory
