Senior C++ Software Engineer

Role description

Senior Software Engineer C++

Job Description

This position is on-site in Budapest and requires EU residency and EU work visa.

General Info

We are building a computational imaging platform that recovers the physical optical properties of a scene — the illumination, the camera’s own response, and how real materials reflect and scatter light — from ordinary consumer camera capture. This is a difficult, high-impact engineering problem, and we are building the whole stack: capture, models, and the applications that run on them. The first keystone component is under provisional patent, with a broader patent family in progress.

This is a hands-on, senior C++ engineering role, and we are looking for the best of the best: engineers for whom C++ is a genuine strength rather than a working competence, who design architecture that stays fast and maintainable as a system grows, and whose code is reliable under real production load. You will own core software across the imaging stack — the data interfaces and pipelines that connect our ML models to consumer applications, the control and data management code that drives capture hardware, and the integration of the full pipeline with our cloud server infrastructure — working shoulder to shoulder with ML engineers, GPU infrastructure teams, and consumer and commercial product engineers on hard, novel problems. The bar is high and we do not lower it. We want a genuinely brilliant, deeply current C++ engineer who thrives on complex problems and consistently ships clean, fast, reliable code.

Tasks
System Development & Architecture

  • Write production C++ of the highest standard: efficient, scalable, and maintainable, tuned for performance, latency, and memory on demanding real-time imaging workloads.
  • Own architecture decisions across the imaging and analysis pipeline, balancing raw performance against long-term maintainability and scalability.
  • Profile, benchmark, and optimize hot paths, hunting down bottlenecks and eliminating them at the algorithmic and systems level.
  • Build for reliability: rigorous testing, deliberate handling of real-world failure modes, and code that holds up unattended under sustained load.
  • Design and build the data interfaces and pipelines that feed our ML models and connect model output to consumer-facing applications.
  • Write the control and data management code that drives camera sensors, lighting hardware, and dolly/motion-control systems in tight coordination with the imaging pipeline.
  • Integrate the pipeline with cloud server infrastructure, building reliable, low-latency services and APIs for data exchange between edge devices, mobile clients, and backend systems.
  • Raise the standard of the codebase through code review, refactoring, and clear technical judgment.

Requirements
Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. This is a firm requirement for the role and is not waived for equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of hands-on, current professional experience writing production C++, with a proven track record of shipping systems end to end. We want engineers who are still deep in the code every day.
  • Demonstrable code samples of exceptional work. You will be asked to share code you are free to disclose and to walk through it in depth: the design decisions, the trade-offs, and what you would do differently today.
  • Expert-level, up-to-date command of modern C++ (C++17/20): highly efficient, optimized, production-grade code of the highest quality and reliability, with strong command of memory management, concurrency, and performance tuning.
  • A real track record in software architecture: systems you designed yourself that stayed fast, correct, and maintainable as they grew.
  • Demonstrated rigor around reliability and correctness: testing discipline, failure-mode analysis, and code that runs without surprises.
  • Experience building data-intensive systems, pipelines, and backend services and APIs.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional problem-solving ability and systems thinking, able to decompose complex, novel problems and reason rigorously about performance, correctness, and trade-offs.
  • Fluency in profiling, benchmarking, and performance analysis, with the instinct to measure rather than guess.
  • Comfort operating in a confidential, research-driven, fast-moving environment where requirements evolve quickly.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across ML, GPU/infrastructure, hardware, and product teams.
  • Genuine passion for high-performance systems, imaging, and machine learning, with the drive to go deep and stay current with the state of the art.
  • High ownership, sharp attention to detail, adaptability, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Hungary, with fluent English, both written and spoken.

Additional Preferred Experience

The following are all positives. None of them are required, and we would rather hire an outstanding C++ engineer without them than a good one with them.

  • Control and data management code for image sensors, cameras, lighting hardware, or dolly/motion-control systems, including the control systems and device interfaces around them.
  • ML data work: training-data capture, ingestion, wrangling and cleaning, labeling, versioning, and the dataset tooling and interface systems that support it.
  • Image or sensor processing, computer vision, or camera and capture pipelines.
  • GPU programming (e.g., CUDA) or other high-performance parallel computing.
  • ML inference and model-serving integration, or real-time data flows.
  • Cloud service integration, low-latency APIs, and distributed backend systems.
  • Experience in early-stage startup or R&D / innovation-lab environments, delivering novel products under ambiguity.
  • Track record of delivering first-of-its-kind products or platforms.

Compensation

In accordance with Hungary’s implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive (Directive (EU) 2023/970):

  • Salary range: HUF 2,000,000 – HUF 3,000,000 gross per month, depending on experience and demonstrated depth.
  • Discretionary performance bonus, with details discussed with shortlisted candidates.

Compensation decisions are made on the basis of objective, gender-neutral criteria, including relevant experience, technical skills, scope of responsibility, and demonstrated performance. The Company does not request salary history during the recruitment process.
