Frontend Engineer

Senior Full Stack Engineer (TypeScript / Python / AWS)

hedgehog lab

Sofiacontractsenior

Apply on the employer's site

Role description

Location and basis
Nearshore contract, engaged on a B2B basis. Starting as soon as possible.

Fully flexible working: home, office, or a mix, your call. We just ask that you're based within one of these areas:

  • Romania: within 50 miles of Bucharest, Cluj or Iasi
  • Bulgaria: within 50 miles of Sofia

Applications from outside these areas won't be considered.

The engagement
You'll join a retained engineering team on a high-volume online marketplace, part-way through a major, multi-year technology transformation. There's a live migration to AWS and a full version 2 build underway.

The current client-facing platform runs on PHP and Laravel. The direction of travel is a service-based architecture on AWS, built in TypeScript, JavaScript and Python.

You'll write the new world and help maintain the old one. That means writing TypeScript and Python day to day, while being able to read PHP and make changes to the existing platform where needed.

This is genuinely end-to-end full-stack work: front-end, APIs, data, auth and service architecture. We're after broad depth rather than a single-language specialist.

This is a demanding, fast-paced environment. You'll need to be productive quickly without a long ramp.

The platform
This is a genuinely large-scale marketplace. Very few platforms handle a product catalogue or transaction volume at this level.

The roadmap includes agentic AI workflows built into the platform, retail media integrated directly into the marketplace, and infrastructure work targeting cost and performance at high volume.

A lot of this is being attempted at volumes that have rarely been tested in a marketplace before, so the work leans research-led rather than routine.

Who This Suits
This is a fast-paced scale-up environment on a complex platform.

You'll do well here if you're comfortable with ambiguity and shifting ground, and confident enough to advocate for the technical decisions you make.

What We Need
The essentials:

  • Senior to principal full-stack experience, genuinely end-to-end across front-end, APIs and data
  • Strong hands-on AWS, with infrastructure as code (Terraform or CDK)
  • You write TypeScript, JavaScript and Python, and can read PHP (Laravel) and make changes to it
  • You can advocate for technical decisions and communicate them clearly
  • Comfortable delivering at pace in a complex, high-volume environment
  • Comfortable working in English, written and spoken

Nice To Have

  • Retail or e-commerce background
  • Experience building service-based platforms in AWS
  • Worked at or closely with a major cloud provider such as AWS
  • GenAI or agentic workflows in your engineering practice
