As a
FinOps Engineer specializing in AWS
, you will be responsible for maintaining cloud financial hygiene, keeping documentation up to date, investigating cost anomalies, and preparing actionable optimization proposals.
You will start with a 100% focus on day-to-day FinOps operations during the first 2–6 months, gradually expanding into building custom FinOps automations, AI-driven monitoring agents, and shared Terraform modules.
YOUR IMPACT:
- Cost Reviews & Anomaly Management:
- Perform periodic cost reviews (1–2 times per week) to analyze trends and catch suspicious costs early.
- Communicate with engineering and operations teams to investigate root causes of cost anomalies across AWS and AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI).
- Prepare clear, data-driven cost optimization proposals for engineering leads.
- Documentation & Governance:
- Keep internal FinOps documentation, tagging guidelines, and cost-allocation frameworks clean and up to date.
- Implement and maintain resource tagging strategies for accountability and transparency.
- Automation & Engineering (Growth Scope):
- Contribute to building internal cost optimization and monitoring automations.
- Participate in R&D initiatives to build custom AI agents for automated cost tracking and anomaly prevention.
- Help design and maintain shared Terraform modules.
- Risk Management:
- Monitor for and mitigate risks related to overprovisioning, misconfigurations, and unforeseen spending.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, cloud usage guidelines, and AI service budgets.
OUR REQUIREMENTS:
- Technical Expertise:
- Understanding of AWS services and pricing models (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS).
- Proficiency with AWS cost management tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Budgets) and familiarity with AI provider usage/billing (Anthropic, OpenAI).
- Experience with scripting and automation (Python, Bash).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and an interest in building shared modules or AI tools.
- Operational Acumen:
- Experience in root cause analysis of cost anomalies and in drafting structured proposals.
- Strong attention to detail regarding internal documentation and cost tracking.
- Knowledge of FinOps practices, frameworks, and cost allocation principles.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Ability to communicate complex technical and financial information clearly to engineering teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills to investigate anomalies constructively and drive proactive cost-saving habits.
