Flash is seeking a visionary and deeply technical Lead Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to serve as the principal technical authority for our QE Enablement team. This is the highest-level individual contributor role at Flash, designed for a recognized expert in software architecture, automation, and quality engineering. As a Lead SDET, you will serve as the technical right hand to the Engineering Manager, architecting mission-critical QE initiatives and setting the technical vision for our next-generation frameworks.

This is an engineer-first leadership role. You will act as a force multiplier, influencing technical direction across the entire engineering organization and spearheading the adoption of cutting-edge practices, including AI-driven testing. You will personally tackle the most ambiguous and complex technical challenges while fostering a culture of technical excellence through high-level mentorship and governance.

What You'll Do

  • QE Architecture: Architect, design, and prototype highly scalable test automation frameworks and infrastructure to be leveraged across the entire engineering organization.
  • Technical Vision & Strategy: Partner with Engineering Leadership to define the long-term technical roadmap for QE, evangelizing the adoption of new tools and AI/ML paradigms.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as the primary technical consultant for quality across multiple teams, guiding them in solving the most difficult automation and testability problems.
  • Setting Technical Standards: Establish and govern coding standards, architectural best practices, and quality gates for all QE-related projects.

What You Bring
Technical Skills

  • 8+ years of experience in software development with a proven track record of architecting large-scale test automation initiatives.
  • Expert-level skills in software architecture, design patterns, and programming (TypeScript and/or C# preferred; Java/Python a plus).
  • Expert-level experience building frameworks from the ground up using multiple tools (Playwright preferred; Selenium, Cypress, or Appium acceptable).
  • Deep expertise with CI/CD systems, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
  • Deep experience testing at the API and Database layers (SQL, MSSQL, Oracle) and designing test data strategies.
  • Authoritative knowledge across all testing types, including performance and security testing.
  • Proven experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Gemini) to improve engineering efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies
  • Experience working in AWS environments (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Linux environments (in addition to Windows) is a plus
  • Exposure to mobile testing is a plus

Role description

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) works with the QA team to evaluate existing automation framework, enhance test frameworks, write and design automation scripts from scratch, and maintain automated test scripts to ensure quality control standards are achieved. This person helps grow, develop, and implement automated testing solutions to maximize testing coverage and reduce testing cycle time.

This role involves access to proprietary systems and sensitive information, and may be subject to confidentiality and information security requirements as defined by company policies and applicable law.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Test Automation Architect in evaluating and learning existing automation frameworks and providing automation solutions for building an end-to-end regression suite.
  • Develops, executes, and maintains automation test scripts to meet software release deliverables, project testing requirements, and other quality considerations.
  • Works to minimize manual testing by identifying high-ROI test cases and automating them.
  • Acts as an integral part of an Agile Engineering team, working interactively with Software Engineers, Test Engineers and Product Managers for the full development life cycle.
  • Ensures functionality delivered in each sprint is well tested, utilizing automation wherever possible.
  • Develops smoke, functional, regression, and integration test suites for GUI front-end, API services and database backend.
  • Documents, maintains, and monitors software problems.
  • Recommends strategies and methods to improve test plans and test processes.
  • Maintains well-organized records of test results and generates historical analysis of test results.
  • Mentors manual QA testers while working on implementing and enhancing automation efforts.
  • Leverages automation best practices and coding standards to deliver high-quality products.
  • Participates in off hours and weekend support as needed, primarily during release times.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent nice to have, not required
  • Strong English reading comprehension and written communication skills are required
  • 2+ years of experience with various programming languages such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, Python, or equivalent. Well versed in Object-Oriented Programming Skills.
  • 2+ years of experience in a QA department, with a strong focus on test automation.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience using open-source automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, etc.
  • Extensive experience (2-3 years) in automating UI and API tests, ensuring comprehensive test coverage.
  • Experience writing SQL queries and performing database testing.
  • Exposure to open-source automation tools for mobile automation such as Appium and/or iOS native frame XCUItest, and native framework Espresso for Android.
  • Experience in integrating automation solutions within CI/CD pipelines and utilizing cloud technologies for scalable testing.
  • Experience with robot and page object model frameworks, leveraging open-source solutions for test automation.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, specifically Scrum or Kanban, to support iterative development and testing.
  • Strong communicator with excellent analytical skills, capable of solving complex problems and driving improvements in test automation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the QA team.

What you'll be responsible for in this role:

  • Leading testing effort in the payments, card issuing and revolving credit domain.
  • Reviewing requirements, specifications, and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
  • Creating detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases in JUnit 5.
  • Preparing quality assurance policies and procedures
  • Designing, developing, and executing automation code.
