About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our Data Science & AI organization at Doctolib. This strategic role functions as a transversal force multiplier across all AI teams, including Clinical, Productivity, Phone Assistant, and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR). Unlike traditional roles confined to a single feature team, you will own and address cross-cutting technical challenges, define architectural standards, and promote best practices across the organization. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping how Doctolib’s product and AI teams develop agentic solutions, standardize ML evaluation frameworks, and implement robust engineering practices. You will unblock teams, influence architecture decisions, and undertake deep technical work that requires senior ML judgment at scale. Your work will directly impact the daily lives of 400,000 healthcare professionals and 80 million patients, delivering innovative products that measurably improve healthcare outcomes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical strategy, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in a mission-driven environment.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, with at least 3+ years in a senior or principal leadership role managing complex, multi-team initiatives
- Deep expertise in at least two of the following areas: clinical NLP, large language model (LLM) fine-tuning and evaluation, automatic speech recognition, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, or reinforcement learning
- Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, Transformers libraries for training models, and vLLM for inference, with a proven track record of deploying ML systems in cloud environments (AWS/GCP)
- PhD in Computer Science, AI, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent research experience
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of aligning diverse stakeholders and explaining complex technical decisions effectively
- Experience working with healthcare data and familiarity with EU healthcare regulations (GDPR, MDR, AI Act) is a plus
- Publications in top-tier ML/AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICLR, ACL) or medical informatics venues are advantageous
Responsibilities
- Own and guide cross-team ML architecture decisions, including model selection, deployment patterns, and strategic build versus buy choices
- Define and promote adoption of rigorous evaluation frameworks for ML models and agentic solutions across all AI teams
- Establish shared production infrastructure standards for model and prompt versioning, guardrails, uncertainty quantification, cost optimization, and observability
- Lead the technical design of agentic AI solutions, collaborating with product teams to leverage AI capabilities effectively
- Mentor and influence senior ML engineers and technical leads, elevating engineering standards within the organization
- Partner with Product, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure safe deployment and compliance with EU regulatory requirements
- Unblock technical challenges, provide strategic guidance, and shape the technical roadmap of AI initiatives
- Stay abreast of emerging AI trends and incorporate innovative solutions into Doctolib’s products and infrastructure
Benefits

- Subsidies for sports club memberships or creative classes through the Work Council
- 50% reimbursement of public transportation subscriptions
- Parent Care Program offering an additional month of parental leave
- Support for caregivers and employees with disabilities, including remote work adaptations and extra medical leave
