Role description

About Finom
Finom is a European tech startup headquartered in Amsterdam, and we’re on a journey towards revolutionizing the financial landscape for entrepreneurs worldwide. Our mission is to develop an all-in-one financial B2B solution that integrates banking functions, accounting, financial management, and invoicing into a seamless, mobile-first platform.

We recently closed a
€115 million Series C equity round
(around $133 million), bringing our total funding to approximately $346 million. This significant investment follows a $105 million growth funding round from General Catalyst, a long-term backer since 2021 known for supporting companies like Airbnb, HubSpot, KAYAK, and Stripe.

Finom's platform goes beyond traditional banking, offering invoicing and a growing suite of features, including AI-enabled accounting, aiming to simplify financial management for entrepreneurs. We're actively expanding our reach across key EU markets like Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain.

At Finom, we’re not just redefining the entrepreneurial experience — we’re empowering our employees to make a real difference. Your work matters, and your impact extends far beyond product metrics. We nurture innovation and an inspiring work environment where bold ideas thrive, prioritizing thorough research, swift implementation of solutions, and ensuring that every effort we make benefits our users, employees, partners, and our business as a whole.

Maintaining our start-up spirit, we prioritize thorough research, swift implementation of solutions, and ensuring that every effort we make benefits our users, employees, partners, and, of course, our business.

We're looking for a
Senior Backend Engineer
who thinks like a product builder, thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment, and is passionate about creating robust, scalable financial infrastructure. You'll be part of a domain team where various engineering crafts (Backend, Frontend, Mobile, ML/AI engineers, and QA) work together to own and evolve a shared product area that delivers real value to hundreds of thousands of businesses across Europe.

About You and What You'll Do:
You're pragmatic, learn quickly, and have a proven track record of shipping products that matter. You communicate clearly across disciplines and genuinely enjoy the dynamics of a cross-functional team where everyone contributes to solving the same customer problems. Above all, you're curious – about the product, the users, the business, and how your technical decisions impact all three.

As a product-minded backend engineer, you don't just implement tickets. You understand the "why" behind what you're building, challenge assumptions when needed, and proactively identify opportunities to create better outcomes. You're comfortable discussing trade-offs with product managers, explaining technical constraints to business stakeholders, and collaborating with frontend and mobile engineers to design elegant end-to-end solutions.

You have deep expertise in .NET and C# with a strong appreciation for maintainable, scalable code, and distributed architectures. But more importantly, you know when to apply that expertise and when simpler solutions serve the product better. You've built data-intensive applications before and understand the concepts of working in a regulated environment.

You take ownership not just of your code, but of the outcomes. You move without being prompted, whether that's jumping into a customer issue, improving team processes, or mentoring colleagues. You're curious about adjacent domains – you might peek at the frontend code, ask questions about the ML models, or dive into analytics to understand how features perform.

Quality is non-negotiable for you. Automated testing, thorough code reviews, and security best practices are fundamental to how you work. You balance technical excellence with pragmatism, always keeping the end user and business goals in mind.

Your experience includes:

  • At least 5 years of professional backend development with a product engineering mindset
  • Excellent knowledge of .NET platform and C#
  • Hands-on experience architecting and evolving distributed systems in production
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, and engineers from other disciplines
  • Strong business acumen – you understand how your work connects to company objectives
  • Clear, concise communication in English across technical and non-technical audiences
  • A builder's mentality: you care deeply about shipping great products, not just writing great code

Our tech stack

  • Backend: .NET/C#, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Kubernetes, GCP.
  • You'll work alongside teams using React (Web), Swift (iOS) / Kotlin (Android), Python/ML frameworks, and modern test automation tools (Playwright, Appium).

Recruitment flow:

  • Recruiter Interview
  • First Technical Interview
  • System Design Interview
  • Team Fit Interview (peer interview)
  • Offer

Hello,

We are called People More because we treat our employees with respect, but also because the projects we work on are for people and should be easy and pleasant to use. We are technological, but we look at the bigger picture :)

The company is made up of people with a huge client base in the country and abroad, for whom we build projects from scratch (UX, UI, frontend, backend, mobile) or in part. We work directly for our clients and also support our partners in their own solutions. This ensures a wide range of projects and the ability to change! We work with clients all over the world.

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted or agentic coding workflows while maintaining high engineering quality standards.
  • Very good English and Polish

What We Offer

  • We are open and honest and we solve problems instead of generating them.

  • A small team
  • An international working environment and international projects
  • Private medical care
  • Sports card
  • Training courses
  • Work that is 100% remote (unless you prefer another system)

We have an office in Krakow, but if you like to work remotely, that’s absolutely fine. We are OK with fully remote work. For us, you can be located anywhere. :)

Backend Engineer

Senior Fullstack Developer - Freelance (Ruby on Rails & React)

Monterail

Remotefulltime

Apply on the employer's site

Role description

Location: Remote

  • Collaboration: Freelance, via Monterail Tech Network
  • Start: ASAP The project

Some products you use every day without ever seeing them. This is one of those.

Our client is a well-established B2D (business-to-developer) SaaS platform -real-time infrastructure that moves billions of messages a day for developers around the world. Live chat, dashboards, collaborative apps, state synchronization: if it updates in front of your eyes, there's a good chance technology like this is running underneath.

The role
This is a product-minded engineering role, not ticket execution. The team is deliberately moving away from reactive delivery toward engineers who understand customers and drive outcomes. You'll take features from a loose concept to shipped and monitored in production — dashboards, billing UIs, documentation platforms, developer-facing tools — proposing what should be built, not waiting for a roadmap to tell you.

And here's the fun part: the customers are developers. You'll use the product yourself and fix the frustrations you'd want fixed.

What We're Looking For

  • A fullstack craftsman. You're strong in Ruby on Rails and React and comfortable moving across the stack - from complex dashboards to sleek documentation platforms
  • A DevEx champion. You have natural empathy for other developers and genuinely care about the developer experience of the tools you build
  • Comfortable with ambiguity. You thrive when the brief is vague. You identify problems, propose solutions, and ship with minimal hand-holding
  • An owner. You see features through their entire lifecycle — from the first line of code to the final metric in production. Quality issues that surface after release are still yours
  • A proactive communicator. You give realistic estimates, meet your commitments, and speak up early if a timeline is at risk
  • Fluent with AI coding assistants. The team uses them actively for planning, prototyping, and iteration — you should too, while owning the correctness and quality of everything that ships
  • Design and UX intuition. You notice when a flow feels wrong and you're not afraid to say so

Tech stack
React + TypeScript on the frontend, Ruby on Rails on the backend, some Node/TypeScript services, PostgreSQL underneath.

Nice to have

  • Experience building developer-first products or working on B2D platforms
  • Experience with products grown through product-led growth (PLG)
  • Background in real-time, messaging, or infrastructure-adjacent products

How the collaboration works
This is a freelance engagement through the Monterail Tech Network - you work with us on a B2B basis, embedded in the client's team, with Monterail handling the partnership side. Read more about what freelancing with us looks like at Monterail Tech Network.

Sound like you?
Send us your resume — and if you've built anything for developers before, we'd love to hear about it.
