Do you want to shape the future of aviation?
Join Smart4Aviation and work on Smart PERFORMANCE - our takeoff and landing performance system, used by airlines to calculate optimum flap and thrust settings, required runway lengths, maximum takeoff and landing weights and V-speeds, based on a fully configurable airport, runway, obstacle and aircraft database.
Key responsibilities
As a Business Analyst for Smart PERFORMANCE you will own the requirements side of the product: gathering and analysing needs from airline performance engineers, dispatchers and flight operations teams, and turning them into solutions that hold up against operational reality and regulatory expectations. You will work closely with Product Owners, UX, Developers and QA, and directly with our airline customers.
You will also take a coordinating role in one of our largest customer programmes - a multi-product implementation for a major US carrier where Smart PERFORMANCE is the primary driver. In that programme you will act as the leading Business Analyst: the point where the customer, our product analysts, project managers and implementation consultants meet. Domain content for other products stays with their own specialists; you keep the analytical workstream moving.
Product analysis - Smart PERFORMANCE
-
Conduct detailed business analysis of customer requirements, ensuring alignment with airline flight operations and performance engineering needs.
-
Gather and document functional and non-functional requirements from stakeholders, including airline performance engineers, dispatchers and flight operations teams.
-
Perform gap analysis between customer needs and existing system capabilities.
-
Analyse requirements related to takeoff and landing calculation configuration: aircraft groups and configuration parameters, validation rules, MEL/CDL impact on calculation, airport, runway and obstacle data management.
-
Work with integration requirements across the Smart Suite (e.g. weather data from Smart MET, message distribution via Smart COMM) and with external interfaces such as ACARS-based calculation requests.
-
Define and decompose requirements into user stories with clear Acceptance Criteria.
-
Maintain product functional documentation.
-
Collaborate with Software Developers, UX Designers and QA teams to provide business insight and support test scenario creation.
-
Support User Acceptance Testing and validate new features against customer and regulatory expectations.
Programme coordination - leading BA role -
Coordinate the analytical workstream across multiple Smart4Aviation products and internal teams (Business Analysts, Product Owners, PDMs, Implementation Consultants).
-
Prepare, distribute and follow up on customer requirement questionnaires; chase answers and keep the requirement backlog moving.
-
Build and maintain workshop schedules, agendas, invitations and reminders; hold stakeholders on both sides accountable to agreed dates.
-
Own the Jira and Confluence layer of the programme: create and structure issues, track status, maintain documentation and meeting outcomes.
-
Attend customer workshops and calls; capture decisions, open questions and action owners, and drive them to closure.
-
Travel to customer sites when required, including the US, to support implementation, training and process optimisation.
Qualifications -
5+ years of experience in business analysis, ideally in aviation, flight operations software or a comparable safety-relevant domain.
One of the two following backgrounds (must-have):
-
-
Aircraft performance — experience as a performance engineer or flight operations engineer at an airline; hands-on work with takeoff and landing performance calculation, runway analysis or obstacle and airport data management; or business analysis experience on aircraft performance or EFB performance applications, including OEM performance modules; or
- Airline operational software delivery — business analysis on airline operational systems delivered to airline customers, with a demonstrated track record of taking ownership of a new, technically demanding domain and becoming the reference point for it within months.
-
-
Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
-
Experience with business analysis standards (system use cases, user stories, business cases).
-
Demonstrated ability to keep multi-stakeholder projects on track — chasing inputs, maintaining plans and closing open items without being asked twice.
-
Hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence.
-
Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum).
-
Hands-on experience with software design tools (e.g. Draw.io, yEd etc.).
Strong advantage
- Experience working for an airline software vendor, or on airline system implementation projects.
- Exposure to SCAP performance modules or equivalent manufacturer calculation tools.
- Knowledge of weight & balance or flight planning systems.
- BA certification (e.g. CCBA).
