Mission - Why This Role Exists
As a Software Engineer – Infrastructure & Automation, you will build and maintain the secure, reliable, and automated infrastructure that supports Descartes software products. Combining software engineering, systems operations, and automation, you will improve platform stability, operational efficiency, and development workflows across our on-premises and hybrid environments.

Within your first 12–24 months, you will:

  • Improve infrastructure reliability, availability, and performance across development and production-like environments.
  • Increase automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and operational processes.
  • Enhance CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment speed, consistency, and quality.
  • Strengthen platform security through vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and secure operational practices.
  • Develop internal tools and automation solutions using .NET technologies.
  • Maintain disaster recovery processes, operational documentation, and support procedures.

Technical Skills
Skills & Competencies- How the Work Gets Done

  • Experience with .NET development and automation tooling.
  • Hands-on infrastructure and systems operations (SysOps) experience.
  • CI/CD experience using tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • PowerShell and/or Bash scripting skills.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, REST APIs, JSON, YAML, and XML.
  • Understanding of operating systems, networking, monitoring, and infrastructure security.

Professional Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Engineering, or DevOps-related roles.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience preferred.

  • Netzwerk & Security:
    Überwachung, Wartung und Konfiguration der Netzwerk Infrastruktur sowie Administration der Sophos XGS Firewall inklusive Regelwerken, Remotezugängen und Sicherheitsrichtlinien.

Tasks

You'll handle day-to-day IT operations for our clients and contribute to internal security projects:

  • Provision and manage users, groups, and licences in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace

  • Onboard laptops (Windows/macOS) into MDM and coordinate remote device handovers

  • Triage first-line support tickets (password resets, access requests) and escalate complex issues

  • Run weekly maintenance checks: patch status, backup logs, security alerts

  • Document fixes and runbooks so processes are repeatable

  • Contribute to security projects (~20% of your time): CVE research and briefings, laptop hardening scripts, incident-response playbook drafts, ISO 27001 checklist development

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience
