Join us, grow faster
!

Software Engineer (Operations, Order Management Team)

We own a set of business-critical applications that have been running in production for years - written in PHP, carrying real revenue, and not going anywhere overnight. At the same time, everything new we build goes out in Go: smaller services, clearer boundaries, better performance characteristics under load.

You'll be trusted to make architectural calls on the new Go services, decide how and in what order the legacy estate gets modernized, and set the standard for how the team works with agentic tooling. You'll also be a reference point for the engineers around you - through review, through mentoring, and through the patterns you leave behind.

What makes this role different is how the work gets done. We treat agentic coding tools as the default way we write software, not as an occasional autocomplete. Most code in this team is produced through agents; the engineering skill sits in framing the problem, constraining the agent, and verifying the result. If you enjoy moving fast without losing control of what ships, this is the seat.

What you’ll have to do:

  • Design and build new services in Go - API design, data modelling, concurrency, observability, and the operational side of running them;
  • Keep legacy PHP applications healthy and shippable - understand undocumented behaviour, add tests around risky areas, refactor incrementally, and pay down debt without breaking what works;
  • Carve functionality out of the PHP estate and move it to Go safely - strangler-fig migrations, parity testing between old and new paths, controlled cutovers with a real rollback story;
  • Own the technical direction for your area - sequence modernisation work by risk and value, make the trade-offs explicit, and document the decisions;
  • Deliver the majority of your code through agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and whatever comes next) - writing precise specs and task decompositions, building the context and guardrails agents need, and reviewing generated code with the same rigour as your own;
  • Build the scaffolding that makes agentic work reliable in a legacy codebase - repo-level instructions, architectural conventions, MCP servers and tool integrations, test harnesses that let an agent verify its own output;
  • Own your code in production - GitLab CI pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes deployments, monitoring, alerting, and on-call for what you build;
  • Treat code review as a first-class activity - with agents generating volume, review is where quality is actually enforced;
  • Raise the bar around you - mentor on agentic practice as well as on language and design, and share the patterns, prompts and playbooks that let the wider engineering org get more out of the same tools.

What makes you a good fit:

  • Strong programming fundamentals and a track record shipping and maintaining production software at senior level;
  • PHP experience, including comfort working in older codebases you didn't write — legacy frameworks, procedural code, missing tests, thin documentation;
  • Working knowledge of Go, or clear evidence you pick up new languages quickly and write idiomatic code in them;
  • Hands-on daily use of agentic coding tools, with an honest sense of where they excel and where they quietly produce garbage;
  • Good instincts for testing and verification - unit, integration and contract tests, plus how to validate that a rewritten path behaves like the original;
  • Comfortable with SQL and relational data modelling, plus caching and messaging patterns;
  • Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD (GitLab CI preferred);
  • Solid Bash / Shell scripting;
  • You read code more than you write it, and you're rigorous about what you approve.

What makes you stand out: (optional)

  • Experience leading a monolith-to-services migration, or a language migration, in a system that couldn't go down;
  • Experience building agentic workflows or developer tooling - MCP servers, orchestration around LLM APIs, prompt/context libraries other engineers can reuse;
  • Performance and reliability work at scale — profiling, load testing, capacity planning;
  • TypeScript / JavaScript, Python, or experience across multiple LLM providers and models;
  • You think in systems rather than tickets, and you measure your own impact — cycle time, defect rate, throughput — rather than lines shipped.

What we’ve prepared for you:

  • Medical subscription: Medicover or Regina Maria.
  • A flexible budget that you can invest in yourself as you wish: meal tickets, holiday tickets, cultural vouchers, private pension, foreign language classes, eMAG, Fashion Days, Therme & Genius, membership to different gyms or even professional development classes.
  • Different discounts from our partners: banking, mobile, dental medicine or wellness.
  • Access to the Bookster library and free credits on the Hilio psycho-emotional health platform.
  • An accelerated learning environment, with access to over 100.000 curated online resources and platforms, learning academies and development programs.
  • New headquarters, where sleek design, natural light, and versatile spaces create an energizing and comfortable environment for hybrid work.

Backend Engineer

Senior AI Platform Engineer

N-iX

Bucharest

Apply on the employer's site

Role description

N-iX
is a global software development company founded in 2002, connecting over 2,400+ tech professionals across 40+ countries. We deliver innovative technology solutions in cloud computing, data analytics, AI, embedded software,IoT, and more to global industry leaders and Fortune 500 companies. Join us to create technology that drives real change for businesses and people across the world.

Our client
is a fast-growing European fintech company in the business spend management space — corporate cards and related financial products — serving SME and mid-sized business customers across the EU and UK, in a regulated environment with GDPR compliance obligations. Engineering is organized into cross-functional squads, with platform/enabling teams providing shared tooling horizontally. The client already runs an AI-native engineering practice: Claude Code and GitHub Copilot are used daily, supported by a growing library of shared, versioned Skills embedded in key repositories, enabling an end-to-end flow from ticket to implementation, testing and PR in several codebases. AI tool/connector rollout follows an approved-list and pilot process. The client is AWS-first overall; for data platform and analytics workloads it also runs GCP, with BigQuery as the primary data warehouse. Day-to-day coordination is Slack-first, with Linear for ticket tracking, GitHub for code/PR review, and Notion as the knowledge base.

The client is also building out its AI platform and agentic capabilities: it recently launched an MCP surface in closed beta, giving external AI assistants a structured way to connect and perform real workflows behind guardrails, and treats agent reliability as a system property (tool contracts, approval/consent gates for write actions, evaluation harnesses).

We're looking for
a Senior AI Platform Enginee
r to design, build and operate the shared GenAI infrastructure that product teams rely on.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and operate shared GenAI infrastructure: LLM routing, vector search and RAG infrastructure, MCP gateway, and AI observability/evaluation tooling.
  • Apply strong distributed-systems fundamentals: async workflows, idempotency, failure design.
  • Work hands-on with LLM APIs in production.
  • Apply an AI-security mindset: prompt injection defenses, PII-in-logs handling, credential handling.
  • Apply real engineering rigor to the Context Development Lifecycle (CDLC): generate, evaluate, distribute and observe the context that powers AI agents.
  • Multiply the output and quality of the squad you join, and share patterns/practice beyond your immediate team so adoption compounds across the organisation.
  • Embed directly into a client squad as a hands-on Individual Contributor (not a coaching/managerial role).

Must-Have Skills:

  • Kotlin or Python as primary proficiency, with comfort contributing to both.
  • Experience designing/building/operating shared GenAI infrastructure: LLM routing; vector search and RAG infrastructure; MCP gateway; AI observability and evaluation tooling.
  • Strong distributed-systems fundamentals: async workflows, idempotency, failure design.
  • Hands-on production experience with LLM APIs.
  • AI-security mindset: prompt injection, PII in logs, credential handling.
  • Agent & harness engineering fluency, with concrete evidence of building/operating this kind of tooling, not just using it.
  • Comfortable with the client's current daily tools: Claude Code and GitHub Copilot.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Specific cloud depth (AWS and/or GCP), Grafana, or named LLM API vendors. The RFP describes these capabilities generically rather than naming specific tools for this role — listed here as plausible, not confirmed.

We offer*:

  • Flexible working format - remote, office-based or flexible
  • A competitive salary and good compensation package
  • Personalized career growth
  • Professional development tools (mentorship program, tech talks and trainings, centers of excellence, and more)
  • Active tech communities with regular knowledge sharing
  • Education reimbursement
  • Memorable anniversary presents
  • Corporate events and team buildings
  • Other location-specific benefits
  • not applicable for freelancers
