Job description

  • Product Development Ownership: You take ownership of developing innovative sorbent modules from approximately TRL3 to TRL6, optimizing trade-offs between product requirements, performance, manufacturability, and scalability.
  • Lifecycle Management: You lead the lifecycle management of new sorbent modules from TRL6 through product launch, service, and end-of-life, ensuring successful product deployment and long-term performance.
  • Validation & Industrialization: You coordinate the validation of new products through serial production delivery, initiating and driving all engineering, manufacturing, testing, and validation activities required for successful industrialization.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You work closely with in-house technology, development, and operations teams, as well as external collaborators, suppliers, and partners, to ensure seamless product development and delivery.
  • Prototype Fabrication & Testing: You support the fabrication and testing of prototypes, conducting experiments to validate design concepts, troubleshoot issues, and refine product performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: You drive the continuous improvement of sorbent modules by identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the product lifecycle.

Your Story
Job requirements

  • Educational Background & Experience: You hold an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and bring at least 5 years of industrial experience in product development, mechanical design, or design engineering.
  • Design & Engineering Expertise: You have hands-on experience with material selection, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), Design for Maintainability (DfM), and Design for the Environment (DfE), combined with a basic understanding of chemical processes and associated energy and productivity trade-offs.
  • Project Leadership: You have a proven track record of successfully managing development projects from concept through implementation, coordinating engineering activities and ensuring delivery through collaboration with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Innovation & Problem Solving: You bring strong creative problem-solving skills and a passion for advancing sustainable technologies, with a particular interest in contributing to early-stage R&D and product innovation.
  • Collaboration & Communication: You are an effective communicator who enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior engineers, and managing IP-sensitive collaborations with third-party suppliers and partners.
  • Language Skills & Availability: You are fluent in English and comfortable operating in an international, collaborative engineering environment. You are available to work 80–100% and are willing to travel up to 10% as required.

Dein Profil

  • Du hast ein abgeschlossenes Studium im Bereich Ingenieurwesen, Naturwissenschaften oder eine vergleichbare Qualifikation.
  • Du verfügst über mehrjährige Erfahrung in der Qualifizierung oder Validierung im GMP-regulierten Umfeld, idealerweise in der Pharmaindustrie.
  • Fundierte Kenntnisse im Bereich GxP, Qualitätssysteme sowie regulatorische Vorgaben (z. B. EU GMP, US FDA) zeichnen dich aus.
  • Leitungserfahrung in Projekten oder interdisziplinären Teams bringst du mit.
  • Eine strukturierte, lösungsorientierte Arbeitsweise und Kommunikationsstärke zählen zu deinen Stärken.
  • Sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift runden dein Profil ab.

Reisetätigkeit

Die Laufzeit unserer Projekte liegt meist zwischen 6 und 24 Monaten. Abhängig von Projekt und Projektphase ist der Einsatzort hauptsächlich der Projektstandort beim Kunden, wobei Mobiles Arbeiten von Zuhause in Absprache mit der Projektleitung teilweise möglich ist. Systems Engineer
for a temporary assignment until the end of 2027, with high probability of extension.

Roche is shaping the future of critical care diagnostics. Blood gas und electrolyte (BGE) analysis is used in critical point-of-care settings where time and quality matter. NPC RundD BGE is responsible for the development of new and improved BGE analysis systems and the life cycle maintenance of existing BGE products. Within NPC RundD, System Development and Integration is where everything comes together: a team of dedicated scientists, engineers, and lab technicians ensures that hardware and software fit together seamlessly with sensor and reagent technologies to form robust and reliable BGE analysis systems.

The company is looking for a new team member in their Systems Engineering group to help ensure the development success of their complex diagnostics systems, consisting of fluidics, software, instruments, biochemical sensors, and reagents. In this role, you will own and manage system-level topics and documentation, mainly in the form of requirements engineering, interface management, conceptual work, and change control management. Furthermore, you will support the alignment and integration of different system components using Model-Based Systems Engineering and champion the use of agentic AI in requirements engineering.

The Perfect Candidate for this role possesses a background in development within a regulated environment, preferably in the IVD(R) sector, and has 3-5 years of practical experience in system definition, requirements engineering, and systems thinking. They should demonstrate a strong grasp of systems engineering methodologies and an understanding of multiple technology domains, including electronics, mechanics, and software. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit a clear and structured working style, proactive collaboration skills, and the ability to maintain both a big-picture perspective and attention to detail.

Tasks und Responsibilities

Core Systems Engineering und Requirements

  • Own Requirements Engineering and Elicitation as well as Requirements Management
  • Drive and coordinate the requirements change control process
  • Contribute to and author development documents, such as: Product/Technical requirements, Traceability analysis (verification), Product risk analysis, and configuration management
  • Collaborate heavily during FMEA and risk analysis/assessments
  • Support system testing during design verification and validation activities

Cross-Functional Integration und Collaboration

  • Facilitate interface management and descriptions
  • Align and coordinate with affected parties across all systems engineering topics
  • Cooperate cross-functionally with HW and SW Engineering, Operations, Customer Support, Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs
  • Collaborate during the definition, planning, and execution of project tasks and work packages

Innovation: AI und Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Ideate and develop LLM agents or similar AI use cases for design, system performance, and documentation analysis to improve systems engineering artifacts and processes
  • Drive alignment between component development and integration into one system via interface definitions and MBSE methodologies

Must-Haves

  • Background in development within a regulated environment, ideally in the IVD(R) area
