Role description

Location: Bucharest Orhideea, Romania

Thales is a global technology leader trusted by governments, institutions, and enterprises to tackle their most demanding challenges. From quantum applications and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and 6G innovation, our solutions empower critical decisions rooted in human intelligence. Operating at the forefront of defence and security, aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we’re driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

In Romania, we are advancing innovation through software engineering, research and development, delivering solutions in key markets in which Thales Group operates. Our engineers design, develop and integrate solutions that impact global industries – from fully operational systems and subsystems for naval warfare and maritime security operations, to air traffic management systems, satellite-based solutions, tactical indoor simulations, identity and biometric technologies and more.

We're Thales ECC Bucharest, one of the fastest-growing engineering centers in the city. We validate the systems Europe depends on, from air traffic management to critical platforms.

THE WORK
Integration testing, verification and validation (V&V), and qualification of complex systems for air traffic management and critical platforms. You're the person who says "this is ready", and means it.

YOUR STACK
System test strategy and execution, requirements-based testing, Linux, test automation, scripting (Python a plus). ATM or safety-critical background is gold, not mandatory.

YOU
2+ years in integration, validation, or system testing. Rigorous, curious, unimpressed by "it works on my machine". Not ticking every box? Apply anyway. We hire for trajectory, not checklists.

FRENCH TRACK
French is a multiplier here, never a requirement. Several IVVQ programs interface directly with French teams, and French gets you on them faster.

What's In It For You
Competitive package, private medical care, meal tickets, flexible/hybrid working, learning budget and certifications, and the stability of a group that has been building critical technology for 130 years.

What Happens Next
Our programs run for years, so this role never really closes. Apply in five minutes, no cover letter. Answer a few short questions about your stack and seniority, and a recruiter dedicated to your domain takes it from there. When the right project opens, you're matched first, at your level, on your timeline.

At Thales, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where respect, trust, collaboration, and passion drive everything we do. Here, you’ll feel empowered to bring your best self, thrive in a supportive culture, and love the work you do. Join us, and be part of a team reimagining technology to create solutions that truly make a difference – for a safer, greener, and more inclusive world.

Join us and help the world’s leading organizations unlock the value of technology and build a more sustainable, more inclusive world.

About The Job
We are building an enterprise-grade agentic AI platform for a major telecommunications client, focused on network operations. The platform helps operations teams triage events, run diagnostics, and drive incident and change workflows by reasoning over large volumes of internal network knowledge (alarms, tickets, vendor documentation, process data). It is evolving from a single retrieval-augmented assistant toward a multi-agent operations platform with progressively higher levels of autonomy, always under strict human-in-the-loop and data-protection controls. The solution runs on Google Cloud and aligns to the client's central AI engineering and architecture standards.

We are looking for a senior architect to own the end-to-end agentic architecture and steer a nearshore delivery team.

YOUR ROLE

  • Design a modular multi-agent architecture (planner, executor, memory, tool interfaces) and the orchestration and task-handoff logic between agents
  • Define autonomy levels, decision boundaries, and human-in-the-loop controls for operational use cases
  • Architect RAG and long-term memory across multiple enterprise knowledge sources; set model-selection and LLMOps patterns on GCP / Vertex AI (Gemini)
  • Embed guardrails, fallback mechanisms, and GDPR / data-protection compliance into the design
  • Define the evaluation and safety-testing strategy (task completion, hallucination detection, bias) and the release quality gates
  • Steer junior and nearshore developers, review delivery, and uphold architectural standards
  • Interface with client stakeholders and the central AI architecture function on standardisation and scale

YOUR PROFILE

  • 7+ years in AI/ML, including hands-on GenAI and agentic systems
  • Deep, hands-on GCP experience (Vertex AI, Agent Development Kit / ADK), RAG, and LLMOps
  • Proven multi-agent and orchestration design
  • Strong grasp of guardrails, evaluation, and responsible-AI / data-protection practices
  • Able to lead a distributed delivery team and communicate with senior client stakeholders
  • Telco or network-operations domain experience a plus

WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT WORKING HERE:

  • Flexible and dynamic work environment involving teams spread across different global locations;
  • Communities with shared interests and identities, all working together to advance diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace and society;
  • Do you want to learn more? You will have access to various training programs and platforms (e.g.: content provided by Pluralsight, Harvard and Coursera);
  • Attractive benefits package (meal tickets, medical services, Benefit online, Employee Share Option Plan).
