Our team designs, develops, and manages applications and infrastructure that support Akamai's Compute products and services. We do this while maintaining Akamai's mission at the forefront of what we do: make life better for billions of people, billions of times a day.

Partner with the best
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer in the Virtualization & Host Platforms (VHP) Core Linux Platforms (CLP) team, you will be at the forefront of Akamai Cloud hypervisor host technologies. Our team is responsible for the host Linux platform from the hardware to the host and guest platforms: kernel, operating systems, custom KVM/QEMU virtualization layer, guest images, and working closely with next-generation HW teams to ensure new hardware programs succeed in our datacenters. CLP is also pursuing an advanced CI/CD initiative to provide custom physical and virtual platforms to all Cloud infrastructure teams.

You will have opportunities to write software automating our processes, help diagnose and resolve challenging production issues, advance initiatives to improve resource utilization and customer experience, and learn from a highly skilled engineering team. This position will require creative thinking combined with deep domain expertise in the areas of Linux systems engineering, performance tuning, hardware interfaces, systems administration, and configuration management.

As a Se nior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Developing, testing, and distributing changes to software, services, and tools.
• Developing subject matter expertise in VHP components.
• Developing CI/CD pipelines to drive a highly sustainable infrastructure platform supply chain for our rapidly growing Akamai Cloud fleet.
• Comfortable working in new tooling, code and environments and automating what’s possible.
• Collaborating with our support, operations and engineering teams to troubleshoot complex problems

Do What You Love
To be successful in this role you will:

• Possess expert level experience in Linux internals, system administration, and a deep understanding of underlying hardware.
• Possess advanced experience with the Linux kernel, OS, and optimization of their configurations for KVM/QEMU virtualization.
• Possess advanced level experience with designing, developing, and deploying software and infrastructure at scale.
• Advanced level experience in a Development or SRE role, preferably working with large scale distributed systems.
• Experienced with writing, modifying, and debugging Shell scripts and Python code.
• Experience with tools like SaltStack, Ansible, Kubernetes, Chef, or Puppet for managing infrastructure at scale.
• Have great communication and collaborative skills.
• Have relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

About The Role
As a Security Engineer focused on Application and Product Security, you will play a key role in improving the security posture of our applications, services, and development ecosystem. You will work closely with engineering teams to integrate security into the software development lifecycle, build secure-by-default patterns, and ensure that products are resilient against modern threats. This role combines hands-on technical work, security engineering, and collaboration with developers to guide secure design and remediation. You will help implement security controls, perform assessments, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our security program.

As An Application Security Engineer At Starburst You Will

• Integrate application security best practices into the development lifecycle by partnering with engineering teams and enabling automated security checks within CI/CD pipelines.
• Support and maintain Application Security based tooling—including SAST, DAST, SCA, and secrets scanning—and help developers interpret and remediate findings.
• Conduct secure code reviews, threat modeling sessions, and application architecture assessments to identify risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Develop and maintain security automation, guardrails, and reusable components.
• Assist in defining and improving secure coding standards and application hardening practices.
• Support monitoring and detection efforts by helping improve application-level logging, telemetry, and alerting.
• Assist in incident response activities related to application vulnerabilities, including verification, triage, and remediation support.
• Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices in application and product security.
• Contribute to documentation including security requirements, guidelines, and remediation playbooks.
• Participate in internal security reviews, compliance-driven assessments, and architectural walkthroughs.
• Develop and help maintain existing application security tools, pipelines, and workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure secure deployment and continuous improvement of applications.

Some Of The Things We Look For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2–5 years of experience in application security, product security, software engineering with a security focus, or a related technical role.
• Strong understanding of application vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies (OWASP Top 10, CWE).
• Experience with CI/CD tooling, Git-based workflows, and modern development practices.
• Familiarity with cloud security concepts and hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, JavaScript/Typescript, or Ruby. (Java and Python preferred.)
• Experience with application security tools such as OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, SAST/DAST tools, SCA, or dependency scanning.
• Knowledge of secure coding principles, API security, authentication, authorization, and secrets management.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical issues clearly to developers and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Understanding of agile development processes and working within engineering teams.
• Ability to Travel: This role will require 25% in-person travel for purposes including but not limited to new hire onboarding, team and department offsites, customer engagements, and other company events. Actual travel expectations may vary by role and business needs.

This role is based in our Warsaw office and follows a hybrid model, with an expectation of being onsite 1-2 days per week.

What you'll be doing?

• Improve AWS security configurations (IAM, GuardDuty, CloudTrail, Amazon Inspector, etc.)
• Manage and maintain security tools: EDR, MDM, DLP, compliance agents, etc
• Coordinate with IT to ensure all laptops and endpoints follow security baselines
• Review and respond to SOC provider alerts, investigate incidents, and manage the final remediation phase
• Perform vulnerability management and coordinate patching with IT and DevOps
• Improve and maintain WAF rules, anti-bot protections, and other application-layer defenses
• Support access reviews, PCI-DSS reviews, and quarterly/monthly security tasks
• Document and implement security configurations for cloud and SaaS tools
• Contribute to Backup, DRP, and BCP testing in collaboration with Infra/IT teams
• Provide input to security roadmap planning with practical improvements from operations

What you should have?

• 3+ years of experience in Security Engineering, SecOps, or Cloud Security
• Hands-on experience with AWS security configuration and monitoring
• Familiarity with EDR, MDM, DLP, and identity management (SSO, MFA)
• Experience managing and troubleshooting security agents on endpoints
• Knowledge of incident investigation and coordination with SOC services
• Strong understanding of vulnerability management processes
• Comfortable collaborating with IT, DevOps, and compliance teams

• Automation Engineering

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The gross base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be 11,416 to 14,266 PLN gross per month. In addition to the base pay, this role may be eligible for incentive pay based on company and individual performance.
