Ihr Profil
Fachlich

  • Sehr guter Hochschulabschluss (Master) in (Wirtschafts-)Ingenieurwesen, Betriebswirtschaft oder einem verwandten Fachgebiet (mind. Note 5.0 bzw. 2.0 DE/AT).
  • Begeisterung für Produktionsmanagement, industrielle Wertschöpfung und operative Exzellenz
  • Erste Erfahrungen in Industrie, Beratung oder Projektmanagement in einem relevanten Themenfeld.
  • Sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift.
  • Exzellente MS-Office-Kenntnisse; Kenntnisse in R, Python oder Statistik-Tools sind von Vorteil.

About The Role
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will join the AI & Innovation team within Oncology Data Science at Novartis in Basel and pursue an innovative research project at the forefront of biomedical science and drug discovery. You will work alongside leading scientists in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment while gaining exposure to the broader ecosystem that translates scientific discovery into medicines.

Our fellows are empowered to ask bold scientific questions, apply cutting-edge technologies, and develop approaches that have the potential to transform patient care.

Research Opportunity
Working closely with pathologists, translational scientists, and drug discovery teams, you will gain exposure to the end-to-end oncology research process, from biological hypothesis generation and biomarker discovery to translational decision-making. Your project will focus on advancing AI-enabled digital pathology approaches to extract clinically and biologically meaningful insights from complex tissue imaging datasets, including H&E, IHC, multiplex immunofluorescence, and spatial transcriptomics. In close collaboration with computational, pathology, and translational teams, you will help identify robust image-derived biomarkers and interpret spatial and cellular patterns in the tumor microenvironment to support next-generation oncology therapeutics.

Essential Requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in а relevant scientific discipline, completed prior to the fellowship start date. The program is intended for scientists immediately following their PhD training (graduated in 2026).
  • Demonstrated record of scientific achievement (publications, presentations, patents, or equivalent)
  • Strong commitment to learning, innovation, and professional development
  • Experience analyzing imaging data (e.g. H&E, IHC, multiplex IF, spatial transcriptomics).
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: generative AI, digital pathology foundation models, geometric deep learning and / or multi-modal learning.
  • Excellent programming skills and proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, with openness to learning new tools and technologies.

  • Reporting & Dashboards: Create executive dashboards, automate underwriting metric reporting, and provide data-driven insights for decision-makers.

What You’ll Bring
This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of commercial insurance, strong analytical capabilities, industry expertise, and a passion for driving innovation to optimize portfolio performance and deliver value to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in commercial insurance, with a focus on large corporate industry portfolios.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk aggregation, catastrophe modeling, and reinsurance structures.
  • General understanding of insurance product coverages, resulting exposures and their triggering portfolio impacts.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools and predictive modeling (Python or R)
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance (e.g., Solvency II, NAIC), capital modeling, and risk management.

  • Unterstützung bei der Betreuung und Weiterentwicklung quantitativer Modelle entlang des gesamten Lebenszyklus bei führenden Schweizer Finanzinstituten
  • Entwicklung von Kreditrisikomodellen unter Berücksichtigung regulatorischer Vorgaben sowie nationaler und internationaler Marktstandards
  • Validierung und Prüfung von Modellen nach kundenspezifischen Anforderungen sowie (inter-)nationalen Standards (z. B. SR 11‑7, SS 1/23)
  • Gestaltung und Beurteilung von Modellrisikomanagement-Frameworks für klassische und KI-Modelle sowie Identifikation und Steuerung modellbezogener Risiken unter Einhaltung regulatorischer Leitlinien
  • Beratung und Prüfung im Risikomanagement, einschließlich Stress Testing, Kapitalplanung, Risikolimitierung und weiterer quantitativer Aspekte zur Steuerung und Überwachung von Risiken
  • Analyse von Risikomanagementfunktionen, Risk-Appetite-Frameworks und regulatorischer Compliance sowie Entwicklung und Optimierung einer effektiven Governance

Was wir suchen
Wir arbeiten in einem anspruchsvollen Umfeld und legen zugleich Wert auf kontinuierliches Lernen. Die folgenden Punkte bilden die Grundlage für eine erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit:

  • MSc oder PhD in einem quantitativen Fach (Mathematik, Physik, Statistik, Financial/Computational Engineering, Ökonometrie) und idealerweise > 3 Jahre Erfahrung in der Entwicklung oder Validierung von Kreditrisikomodellen bei Banken
  • Zusätzliche Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen in weiteren Risikoarten, wie Markt-, Liquiditäts-, Gegenparteikredit- oder operationellen Risiken sind ein Plus
  • Starkes Interesse am finanziellen Risikomanagement sowie praktische Erfahrung in der Anwendung klassischer und moderner quantitativer Methoden
  • Analytische Exzellenz und die Fähigkeit, methodische Genauigkeit mit interdisziplinären Kompetenzen zu verbinden
  • Programmierkenntnisse in gängigen Sprachen, wie Python und R
  • Interesse an Innovationen und Trends wie KI, Machine Learning, LLMs sowie Nachhaltigkeit im Finanzsektor
  • Exzellente mündliche und schriftliche Kommunikationsfähigkeiten in Deutsch und Englisch
  • Fähigkeit, komplexe Sachverhalte adressatengerecht zu erklären und verständlich aufzubereiten
  • Aufgeschlossene Persönlichkeit mit starken zwischenmenschlichen Fähigkeiten, Eigeninitiative und flexiblem Arbeitsstil in einem multinationalen Umfeld
